| colostomy advise needed
I've posted a bit about my diverticulitus problems this summer, and had my surgery scheduled for sept 29th. I was much sicker than first thought, my sigmoid(sp) was somewhat wrapped around my bladder and uterus. Even tho I had been on antibiotics for 6 weeks, it was severly inflammed and infected. The bowel also adhered itself to those two organs. The doctor decided I needed to have a temp colostomy for 4-5 months to allow the rest of my bowel to heal.
The problem I am having, and since I've yet to speak to a nurse who specialises in colostomys, is, when I cut the hole for my stoma to fit it, I also use the glue, the thing still separates and fecal matter gets in there. I seem to have a good connection under the actual ring fitting the bag connects to, but I am now getting a sore there under the adhesive part where you cut the hole out of. Of course, my stoma has decreased in size a bit, which I understand is normal, but will I be able to glue down a new one on the top of the sore? Will it hurt it and still allow the sore to heal? I have another 3-4 months before its reversed. I cannot imagine living this way for the rest of my life.
