Post I just need some advice... Harry, anyone?

Ok lately I've been having gross bowel movements. As long as I can remember, ever since I was a little kid, my whole family is like this, I have to go to the bathroom about 10mins-1 hour after I eat. Not all the time, but majority of it. I havent been tested for lactose intolerance, but I think Im gonna go to the doctor soon. I just feel like my movements are getting worse. Very rarely are they solid anymore. I mean they're shaped most of the time but more shreddier and paler. The doctor said it's probably a change in diet. I started seeing major differences after I started dieting at the end of this summer, but since I've been in college, about 4 months now my symptoms are still the same. I dont really eat much here, and cafe food usually makes me sick. Sometimes I have this massive uncontrollable feeling and very gross diarhhea, it's almost liquidy if I must say. It has a very distinct smell to it, and I can even smell this odor sometimes when I pass gas. I can only remember having this diarhhea in the past once, a couple months after my knee surgery, and I was trying to lose the weight I gained from that then too. So maybe it is just dieting and a change of diet...I also play bball in college so maybe a change in exercise? Ive never had any major health problems. I had an abnormal liver test this summer, but I was tested for mono, hepatits, etc along with more liver tests and the second time everything came back normal and good. Can someone give me some advice? My roomie up at school has celiac sprue, and all of my symptoms were her problems too.

There are basically 2 things I think you need to do. Start taking a water soluble fiber supplement to firm up you stools. I know Metamucil says for constipation but it works as a stool bulking agent very well. It's also safe to take daily.Drink enough water!!!

I also think the bacteria in your intestines are out of balance and need to be re-balanced---with a probiotic supplement daily and eating a good brand of yogurt with live active cultures ---lactobacillus Acidophilus, and others ---- if you can find it.

I'll try that....I might be lactose intolerant. My mom has told me I was, and that our whole family is. Will that affect it as well? Thanks for your reply!

People that are lactose intolerant have problems digesting milk sugar (lactose) that is in dairy products. You can take Lactaid which may help or you can stop consuming dairy products.

Yogurt which is pre-digested by the friendly bacteria that makes yogurt uses up most of the milk sugar in the process and most people are able to eat yogurt for the friendly bacteria in it!!! I think it's Worth a Try???
