can your intestines, especially the small, become inflammed? and if so what are the symptoms?

Yes, your intestines can become inflamed. Symptoms can vary from person to person. I have crohns and deal with extreme cramping, nausea, vomitting at times, alternating diarreha (sp) and constipation. Hope this helps some.

Do a search for colitis and gastroenteristis on the web to find out more about intestinal inflammation and it's symptoms.
