Post Diharrea

During a bout of diharea that i had recently for about 24 hours, i noticed a speck of blood in one of my stools. This was at the beginning of the stool, and came with a yellow mucus mixed with a small amount of blood that was only noticable when looking at it closly. The rest of the stool appeared normal. I have not noticed any bowel pains previous to the onset of diharea. I had a cold and sore throat during this if it is a factor. I mention this cold because the mucus in the stool closly resembed something comming out of my nose. I am a 19 year old male. Is this something to worry about or does anybody know the cause of these symptoms? Also, does this prompt a visit to the doctor?

If you have a cold, then this is a viral infection and it sounds like you also have a stomach virus with it.

You just need to get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids and there is no need to visit a doctor unless your condition become a lot worse or your symptoms continue for a long period. Normally it can take a week to two weeks to get over flu/stomach flu properly. Anything longer than that and you should possibly consider seeing a doctor, but other than that, there probably is no need. Viruses normally clear of their own accord if your immunity is good and at 19, I would think yours should be.

Take some extra Vitamin C to help raise your immunity to fight the infection.

Thanks for your reply Sarah.

You mention a stomach virus. Would that produce mucus with signs of red blood in it? Would anybody know if this is so?
