Does anyone know of products for managing constipation while pregnant?
I've been hoping to heal fissures before getting pregnant again, but have had no real progess so far.
I'm afraid to use anything but good diet while pregnant, but I would love to keep using metamucil.
Any advice?
Metamucil is fine to use when pregnant. You can take it as often as 2-3 times per day. Also try drinking prune juice or eating prunes as these are great for your bowels. Be sure to eat your yogurt to keep you intestinal flora in check.
Thanks for the replies -- much appreciated!
Helen,
I've had fissures for 3 years and tried everything - diet, surgery, nitroglycerin, mineral oil, citromag, other laxatives, fibre blend and metamucil. Metamucil is the only one that I feel does not compromise my overall health -- but it alone is not making the fissures better. I see it as one way of managing the pain and severity of fissures caused by constipation by keeping stools soft much of the time but not all of the time,
and because it is a bulking agent, stools are larger which I don't like. But it helps enough -- and that may be all I need to get through another pregnancy.
Mineral oil has been the really helpful thing for me, but I know I shouldn't be using it.
Mineral oil--- I think should be taken off the market. It coats your intestines so you can't absorb vital nutrients that are really needed. It's just Flat a bad thing to ever use.
try Colon Cleanse from GNC store. This works wonders. Please check with your Dr. before using this while prego. However, my friend did use this product while prego.
