| | Don't laugh. Can beet juice cause red stools?
Several years ago I was diagnosed with IBS. I was under a lot of stress due to dying grandmother. One morning there was a lot of blood in the toilet, and I got a sigmoidoscopy. I think all she found was a small hemmoroid, and I'm not even sure about that. I've had an anal fissure for 20 years. By the way, my father had colon cancer at age 53 and had 18 inches of colon removed for complete recovery.
Well anyway, about the time the war started I got the runny urgent stools several times a day. One morning I passed bright red corn, freaked out, went to my PCP, got an RX for Dicyclomine, and referral to a gastroenterologist who I see next week.
Anyway, I'm talking to a friend yesterday who said that she got freaked out recently because of red stool, but because she had had beet juice the day before, she knew that was the cause. Something about the natural dye not digesting? Well I've been drinking a lot of V-8 as of late and guess what -- it has beet juice.
I still think my diarrhea has caused something to bleed, but that didn't happen till I freaked out over the bright red corn.
Anybody know? Sorry to be graphic, but it's really sort of funny.
