any thoughts on this? - Bowel Disorders Message Board

I have been having problems with my bowel for the last 3 years now, been to the doctor 3 times had 2 blood tests done nothing was found, had a stool blood test (not sure what the name of the test is) and nothing was found there. I know I have an internal hemorrhoid it bleed every once in a while, but yesterday when I went to the bathroom I felt real constipated more than usual. And today when I went to the bathroom there was a little red blood that was dripping from my rectum and on my stool there were these dark patches that looked like blood that dried on there. So now my question is does this mean that the blood definitely came from higher up in the colon? Or could these be from the hemorrhoid, kind of like it bleed inside of me and it dried on to the stool over night or something? I would appreciate any advice that you can give me thanks!

If the blood itself was dark that means bleeding higher up but if it looked more like dried blood then it probably had dried there but I have no clue where it came from. You mention constipation so that is the first thing you need to work on. Start with Metamucil 2-3 times a day and increase your dietary fiber also. If your stools are hard and dry then use colace too until the Metamucil starts to work effectively. You also mention an internal hemorrhoid but you didn't if the doc actually felt your hemorroid or if you just think you have one because of the occaisional blood on the paper etc. Since you are having more bleeding again you do need to get this evaluated at the docs office. He will probably want to do a colonoscopy to check for any internal problems. In the meantime while you make the doc appointment get started on taking care of that constipation before it causes you more problems.

I agree with mgable. It still possible that dry blood is local but less likely and therefore you have to be more cautious and see a doctor. By all means avoid constipation which can only aggravate your problem. Better soft or even loose stools but don't overdo it.
