Major Bloating and constipation-please help!!!! - Bowel Disorders Message Board

About 4 days ago I started to have problems having a bowel movement. I am extremely bloated and my stomach looks as if I were pregnant (I not I know for sure). I am real bloated down on the lower stomach. If I eat it gets bigger. If I do have a bowel movement it is very small and hard to get out. On the 2nd day that these systoms occured I had a small bowel movement but this time it was kindof loose. Yesterday and today it is very hard to get anything out. So I finally went and got Milk of Magnesia. Well it is not doing anything for me. I know there has to be some poop up in there but it won't come out. The bloating is very uncomfortable. Sorry this is so long.....Does anybody have any ideas what is going on with my belly.
The only thing I have changed in the past week is stopping smoking.

Get medical care for your constipation problem ASAP.
You sound like you are headed for bowel trouble.
Do a home monitor on your blood pressure and pulse and if you have a pulse either over 100 or under 60 go to an emergency room and do not give your self any home enemas.
Bowel problems can flare up pretty fast.
It best to have medical attention.

Since the MOM is not working you may want to try a Bisacodyl aka Dulcolax suppository in the morning. If this doesn't work then see your doc or call and ask if he feels a baking soda enema would be appropriate.

Good Luck if you decide on the enema route.

The day I had my emergency colon surgery I had called the Doctor and he suggested an Enema.
I of course followed Doctors orders to a T.
I wound up collapsing on the bathroom floor and losing my mind to the feeling of hot fire in my bowels and I had to be carried screaming into the Emergency Room.
It was not a pretty sight and it was a horrible ordeal that no one ever needs to experience.
My colon function totally shut down and my urine function stopped and I was in a life threatening disaster.
Enemas are some serious stuff when it comes to certain kinds of constipation.
I never do a home enema any more.
My warning sign was the day before when the Milk of Magnesia simply did not work and I woke up in the morning all bloated with a pulse over 100.
