I know I need to see a doctor re a fissure that will not heal. Do most people go to their regular doctor first or go directly to a Gastro. or Colon/Rectal doctor; if so, which one?
I would go to my regular (GP) doctor and he can refer you to a Gastro. That is if he thinks you need to go to a Gastro. Sometimes the GP can help you and if he can't, they are always more than happy to refer!!
Always use your GP first since he knows your medical history the best. If feels he is not qualified to deal with your problem he will then refer you to the proper specialist in your area.
If you're insurance allows you to go to a specialist without a referral, I would go strait to a Dr. who is familiar and deals with this every day. May save you an office visit and money.
