Question Help: Hemorroids are killing ME!

Lets see first of all I'm new to the forum! Hello everyone!
I've had constipation problems since my early 20's tearing my myself a lot now in my 30's a few months ago I got that "awful hemorroid thing" it got so bad I went & seen my Dr. she said they weren't bad & she'd seen worst (I would hate to have the worst since mine like of killed me)....she gave me a prescription for Proctofoam it help in the begining, but now it seems to just burn when I use it!......... I take stool softeners daily & drink lots of water. Last week I drink quite a bit of malox my stomach was bothering me! I think that was the reason for my hemorroids flairing back up again (not sure though) I'm just about ready to go back & see my Dr. again I'm wanting to know is there anything out there for the relief from the PAIN (besides shooting myself)

I think this is the worst kind of pain I have ever had there is no comfortable position to get in, You can't sleep it's just awful. I'm sure you know where I'm coming from.

It is possible that you got a blood clot in it, and that is why it is so painful. See your doctor again or see a specialist to make sure. You may want to get it removed!

Thanks Joey2 I'll do that! I just know it hurts like the dickens! I've heard people talk about their hemorrids saying that they burn, & itch etc.. but this butt pain is unreal!

Hiya
I just got over a thrombosed hemerrhoid, and OH MY GOD did it hurt, I know what you mean about the not sleeping I had to wedge a couch cushion between my knees just to get some rest.

I went to the doctor after toughing it out for over a week and he said I should have come straight in as he could have lanced it, squeezed out the clot and it would have healed much faster with less pain. (not a very appealing description believe me I know!)

But instead I had followed his prior advice which was to use the dumb creams etc and wait 7-11 days for it to go down. DO NOT WAIT. if you have waited over 48 hours from the time it started they will not do the above mentioned thing as it has sat too long and there will be too much scar tissue and it won't work, now your only choice is to shrink it yourself, wait, or get a surgoen to band it or lop it off.

I managed to shrink mine by taking a 4-5 sitz baths (I mean I sat in a whole bath tub full of water... not those kind that you place on the toilet and sit on) a day (the only relief I could find; even the prescription hydrocortisone cream did nothing!) I would put 1-2 cups of epsom salts in a tub of the hottest water I could stand with out scalding myself, and soak for as long as possible (which with a toddler isn't as long as I would have liked) and it did go down on its own (now its just an obvious dangling piece of skin).

Do the baths they really do provide relief, some people use cold compresses but they didn't do anything for me but every one is different right? Best of luck to you and do everything possible to NOT get constipated or diarhea as this seems to exasperate the whole thing!
sammy

Hi Sammy thanks for responding I've probably waited to long already to see the Dr. The hemorrid is shrinking (thank goodness) if it flairs up again I'm heading to see the Dr. no waiting around this time. The only relief I've found so far is tucking a cold compress between my cheeks with a pillow between my knees & a fan blowing on my butt! The sitz baths do provide some relief as long as I'm in the water. I would love for the Dr. to cut that little sucker off.

You need to add metamucil to your daily routine to help with your constipation and ease off of the stool softeners once the metamucil kicks in. As for your hemorrhoids you can buy tucks medicated pads to use for wiping when they flare up and there are many hemorrhoid creams and suppositories on the market to try. A cool cloth is great for hemorrhoids and if you use them often why not keep a couple of wet ones in a plastic zip lock bag in your refrigerator so they are cold and ready when you need them. If you hemorrhoid bothers you that much you may want to consider asking your doc about having it removed the next time you are in the docs office.

I was in such pain that I almost asked my husband to hack it off with garden shears and to cauterize it with a soddering iron.... I know how it feels. But isn't it amazing how great even a little relief feels?

The cool compresses didn't do anything for me at all I'm glad to hear you have found somthing that works.

If you do decide to ask your DR about surgery ask about all of the options; banding, complete surgical removal, cryo-therapy, the php one that the other guy is talking about... just know all your options and don't be pressured into one way go for the kindest one to your rear,
sammy

Question

I've also had problems with hemorroids for quite some time now. I've tried some different over the counter creams. Finally I went to see a doctor. She told me that they weren't that bad. I beg to differ! Anyway, she gave me some medication. I used up the prescription but it didn't seem to do anything. It also burned quite often when I used it. I have never had problems with constipation I have however quite often had blood in my bowel movements. I've had this happen as long as I can remember. I have never had problems with hemorroids before though. The other problem I have is that my hemorroids seem to leak. I have tried all the suggestions mentioned before but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any other ideas? I will probably go see a doctor again soon as it has been a few months since I last saw one. I've just moved to a new city though so I have to find one first.

Hi very frustrated! The medication that my Dr. gave me also burns when I use it! I'm wondering if this is normal! this is the third time my hemorroids has ever flared up!
My hemorroids have been bothering me for over a week now, I'm planning on seeing my Dr. tomorrow after work & see if I can get something done about them!

I've also had blood in my BM's I assume mine was from tearing myself....now their is blood streaking through my stool I'm thinking it's probably from my hemorroids though!
Sorry, I can't be of any help on your leaking problem. Hopefully someone on the forum can give you some advise.

Hi,
If I can make a suggestion, you may want to see a colon and rectal specialist. I truly think that the world of serious hemorrhoid problems are out of the field of expertise for general practicing physicians. I am a nurse and I am also someone who had a terrible case of thrombosed hemorrhoids back in March. I required emergency surgery as the pain was excruciating. If I had it to do over again, I would have had the internal hemorrhoids banded at a time when they were not flared up or thrombosed. My doctor told me that thrombosed hemorrhoids are among some of the worst pain you can have. I also had kidney stones and the hemorrhoids were worse in terms of the fact that they lasted an awfully long time! 24 hrs in that kind of pain was all I could take! i truly am amazed at how some people who have posted here have described tolerating this type of pain for several days! I could never have done that. Some people asked why I had the surgery since they were, I guess, clueless to the amount of pain involved...I said that I had asked my husband to shoot me and he wouldn't so I had the surgery! *chuckle* I can identify with Sammy who also posted here! It is no fun...............Good Luck to you and keep us posted on your progress!

Marie
PS. btw, I am not fully recovered from my surgery yet but I am back to work! I had 5 thrombosed hemorrhoids removed! If anyone goes through this, you would be smart to take the proper amount of time off work!
