Post Infection after hemorrhoidectomy

Has anyone have infection after hemorrhoidectomy? Is it very difficult to cure? I have a discharge four days after my operation and I am very distressed. Any comment will be helpful. Thank You.

Hi, Jack01sport. I know we've writting on this in the posting Hemorrhoidectomy Blues!!! Will I Ever Recover From This Surgery???? but your thread looked so lonely without any replies, I thought I would just add this.

Yes, I developed a pus infection actually 8 weeks after my hemorrhiodectomy. The first few weeks I had the typical yellowish fluid discharge that is normal and to be expected and not a problem. It scared me to see pus start one day after 8 weeks from the surgery, and my general practitioner told me it was not normal and that I needed to see my surgeon immediately. Well, that meant either taking antibiotics, which I have allergies to many and can only take one that is very expensive, or perhaps, facing some kind of invasive procedure that I absolutely didn't want.

So, I decided to not see my surgeon as my doctor insisted, but to try to first religiously doctor my butt, not just outside but inside, which meant keeping the inner wounds clean too. You see that is the big problem with this surgery, while you can readily doctor the outside, your insides you can't reach or touch normally. But I found that I could indeed treat the inside by bathing it with an herb called gotu kola after cleaning the sphincter with wet cotton tips.

For good measure after a week, I also added an inner one time bathing of calendula herb tincture, which also is an antiinflammtory and antiseptic. My plan was to aggressively attack and conquer the unsanitary conditions inside of my rectal vault. Fortunately I have managed to succeed.

The pus stopped a week after treatment, and now 3 weeks later, the inside of my rectum feels completely comfortable, normal!! That is something I thought I would never feel again, and not so soon after the way my healing seemed to be just dragging on and on.

I am still doing this herbal regimen, until I am no longer in danger of infection from any new cuts that may develop from hard stools while the scar tissue is still prominent.

For both herbs, I use alcohol liquid extracts made of only 100% of the herbs, with some alcohol and water. That means I have one bottle of liquid gotu kola and one bottle of liquid calendula. I do not use any of the herbs that are prepared with glycerin, not alcohol, as glycerin, an oil, can delay healing; alcohol does not delay healing by keeping the wound moist as oil does, but helps it by keeping the wound dry.

To apply it, I sit on a towel on the floor. I put a makeup mirror in front of my rectum. I don a headband flashlight I got at a hardware store and shine it in the mirror. The light reflects off the mirror onto my rectum, lighting me up completely so it is easy to see and I now have my two hands free to clean and medicate myself.

Then I use some cotton swabs wetted with water to gently and I mean gently clean my outer rectum. I then pat myself dry. Then I put a cotton ball at the base of my rectum to catch any drippings from the herbs and protect my towel.

Then I put a thin line of Calmoseptine ointment running along the outside of my anal area on either side. I found that the calmoseptine, when I get up and dress, protects the outside of my rectal area from any irritation from the alcohol in the herbs. Initially the alcohol didn't bother me, but since I am applying these herbs for over 3 weeks, I started then to feel some bothersome dryness after each application, and remedied that by adding calmoseptine ointment on either side of my rectum, as the inquinal line and not on the butt hole directly. Calmoseptine is an over the counter ointment available online, made just for rectal problems.

Okay, then I shake up the bottle of liquid herb, open it up, and fill the dropper with new liquid. Then I place the dropper at the opening of my rectum, NOT inside of it, and relaxing my sphincter, squirt in at least 1/4 to all of the dropper of herb. As you can see, I do not dilute the herb, or make a tea of it, etcetera, just put it full strength inside. I let what liquid falls on the outside of the rectum to bathe the outside and don't wipe it off.

Then I get up and get dressed.

I follow this regimen after my morning bowel movement with the gotu kola and just before bedtime. After lunch and some time before supper, I then use the calendula herb in the same method.

Thank You very much for the info. It is very frustrating to see signs of infection while recovering from this painful surgery. I will follow your instructions religiously. Thanks again and I am glad that you are well on the road to recovery.
