What does the doc want you to do in the period between now and the appointment with the specialist? If he hasn't given you any treatment plan to tide you over until you see the specialist then yes I would say you need to get something going in the meantime. Normally a CBC is one of the first tests any standard doc would do to be sure you aren't losing too much blood and becoming anemic. If the doc did a CBC and that was ok then just monitor things until your appointment and if things get worse or if you start to feel very fatigued, tired or short of breath etc with normal activities then see a doc to have you blood levels checked. My dad had severe lack of energy and SOB and it took them a longggggggggggggg time (at least 5 months) to finally discover what was causing it. The did an endoscopy and finally found out that his stomach was badly eroded and now that they have him on meds for that he is doing fine. Your best bet is to monitor how you feel and to monitor your symptoms closely until the specialist sees you. If you feel more should be done now then get a second opinion.
