soft stool, BIG hemmhoroid! - Bowel Disorders Message Board

This never made any sense to me - if I am constipated and the stool is very hard and I strain to pass it, I get NO hemmorhoids, I'm fine, as SOON as it gets soft again (or heaven forbid I get a diarrhea), the hemmorhoid gets so big and painful for a day until it shrinks and then I go again and it's huge and painful!! (if I go hard, it's fine!) Everywhere I read it says to keep stool soft to prevent hemmhoroids, but that aggravates mine!
The same with my mom! Is anyone else backwards like that??

i am the EXACT same way!!! its amazing that we can never find info on things like that!!! if i have frequent bm or diarhea then i get hemmoroids but if i get a bit constipated i dont!! go firgure!!i just sit in hot water a lot and use otc cream and it goes away after a while.

Ok so I'm not crazy. This happens to me as well. If my BMs are nice and soft, my hems burn so badly afterwards and I hurt for hours. Same with Diarrhea. If it happens just ONCE, my hems swell and thrombose and it takes a good 4 weeks or so to heal. I just don't get it. Now I know that diarrhea is just as irritating to them as constipation because the force of the diarrhea coming out of your body causes the hems to swell. I have been constipated for awhile and while it is frustrating, my hemorrhoids have not flared up. Strange.

Thanks for the replies!! Now I know my body isn't being weird just for ME (and my mom!) alone! Sitting in a bath and using Tucks seems to help quite a bit, but I would like to get constipated again! LOL!
