Magnesium Citrate or Phospha Soda - Which is better? - Bowel Disorders Message Board

I just had a sigmoidoscopy done on Monday b/c I have bleeding. Doc found hemorrhoids and a polyp. But I also wasn't ëmpty". I had done the liquid diet Sunday morning, drank the magnesium citrate Sunday night and had the procedure done Monday afternoon.

Will the Phospha Soda do a better job of cleaning me out? I had a lot of abdomible rumblings but I knew I didn't get it all out.

I need to have the colonoscopy done next month and they put phospha soda this time to take 1 & 2 days before the procedure.

Which is better?

Hi,

I've taken the Fleet and will never do so again. I can't to a light diet then liquid diet for two days before the scope. Too nauseating for me.

I have had 6 colonoscopies done and will only go for the Co-Lyte or Lyte-Prep or Go-Lytely.

It is a gallon of stuff you have to drink, tho. But you can eat a light lunch the same day as the prep.

You'll be squeaky clean for the scope!!

In my opinion...the fleet (phospha soda) is the worst idea yet for a clean out.

I've never done magnesium citrate.

I vote for the phospha soda any day. Watched husband take the gallon of Co-Lyte and have horrible cramping. Then next time he took the 40 pills...even worse!! We almost had to bring him to the emergency room both times. The fleet phospha soda was given to him before his last colon surgery....was able to eat what he wanted until 12:00 midnight the night before the day prior to surgery. The clean-out was a breeze. I also took the fleet the day before my colonoscopy and it was a breeze...I would gag just watching husband when he drank his Co-Lyte. Have friend whose daughter is on kidney dyalisis and she said the fleet is what dyalisis patients are given because it is so mild. The fleet draws fluid into your intestines to flush it out...just drink plenty of water. You'll be fine! Cathy

I vote for phospha soda. It's disgusting but quick.

I will try the phospha soda next time. The magnesium citrate was premixed in a bottle, but it was hard to get the rest of it down. Hopefully this will be better!
