Hello Jason,
Firstly may I congratulate your wife and yourself on the birth of your baby.
I am not medically trained but talk from my own experience. This information was given out previously on the board.
When bleeding occurs from haemorrhoids it is usually because they have bursted. This normally happens because forcing oneself to use the toilet causes the pile to fill up more and then burst because of pressure.
The mucus is normal in the gut as it lubricates the passage of food. If we get constipated then the mucus comes out lumpy or stringy because it hasn't had a smooth flow in the gut. Stopping and starting when using the toilet (my apologies for sounding perhaps a little crude

) causes this. Be assured the mucus is natural. Ony when a person is constipated and therefore perhaps forcing themselves to go, this will then occur.
The best thing your wife can do under these cirumstances is to find a laxative that is mild, nothing that is going to act like a stick of dynamite! When this begins to work then she must try to ensure that she doesn't get constipated again if she can help it. Apart from her own discomfort, the incidence of haemorrhoids and bleeding will continue.
Congratulations once again to your wife and now 2 children. Take care.
If I can be of further help, please let me know.
