Acute Fissure Surgery

There seems to be so many of us with various issues. I am now just five weeks out of surgery for an acute fissure. It has been a VERY difficult and painful experience. I only experienced the spasms after surgery which lasted about four weeks after each bowel movement... they would last two or three hours each time. Laying on my side or stomach, standing, crawling, nothing would help. I tried to anticipate when it was time to go to the bathroom and take the Hydromorphone 2mg as perscribed by the doc. I also would take Tylenol Extra Strength ( three or four of them at 500mg each). That seems to help (some). I still have an infection which the doctor is treating with Aluminum Nitrate or Sulfate. That stings a bit but should prevent an absess. Taking a fiber supplement and using a stool softener like Colace helps. This will prevent a hard stool which you DO NOT want after surgery. Also drinking lots of water helps me to remain hydrated. I am still recovering but seem to get a little better each day. I was out of work for a month due to the extreme pain of trying to sit. I am back to work and coping though. I hope for all of you out there going through anything simalar that your healing is swift and complete.

Re: Acute Fissure Surgery

Hi I had surgery to fix a fissure In October..last year...I started having problems again last month and am going back in to another surgeon....one mistake I made was to eat to heavy and most likely ripped myself again....I have external skin tags that I think are compromising my healing process...I am back in severe pain again...it IS a long, recovery process....and the most important thing to do is to take that recovery slowly and seriously...I am hoping to regain the results I had back In October..but might need more surgery..but at this point I want my life back..I can defintitely relate to the NOT being able to sit....I have had a lot of medical problems over the years...and EVERYTHING pales in comparison to THIS pain.....it stinks to be in this condition.....I have cried many tears over all of this the last 8-9 months and though I have a high tolerance for pain..(I only took tylenol after 2 C-Sections and gallbladder surgery) THIS pain has taken the top spot in my book....I wish NONE of us were on this board in pain..I wish everyone out there a fast recovery...ALL of us DESERVE to be healthy since this is NO way to live!~!!!

Re: Acute Fissure Surgery

Hey Watchout... thanks for your input. You hit the nail right on the head when you said all of us deserve to be healthy and this is no way to live. I too... have skin tags but fortunately not in that area. I had a lot of tags removed from my neck six years ago but some are coming back. At that time the doctor froze them one by one and lanced them off with a sharp surgical instument. A simple bandaide and some iodine to prevent infection solved the tag issue although I have about five under my arms that need attention. I prey that you, "Watchout", don't require surgery again and I will take heed to what you noted about being careful how I eat. Let me know how things turn out for you.

Re: Acute Fissure Surgery

I know how you feel. That is why I am on these boards everyday trying to give others encouragement/advice. I live with the pain of hemorrhoids every single day and many days, the pain is excrutiating. I mean, the type where you do not want to go on living your life if it is going to be that painful. At the moment I am having serious anal pain issues as I have caught some nasty virus that is giving me stomach and diarrhea issues - making my hemorrhoids even worse. I feel like my life revolves around my behind and I just want my life back. I want to be free to go and do and eat whatever i want. I don't think I will ever get back to that place again and it makes me so sad and depressed. i should never have taken my health for granted.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I can't offer you any advice but support. You are not alone in this.

Dana

Re: Acute Fissure Surgery

Dana (Fire Woman)... you deserve much better... I can't begin to imagine what you must be going through. I can certainly understand the diareehea issue. There are days when I would have to stool five to seven times each with extrordinary pain. Often, before surgery and after I would think to myself... whats the point of going on living if its going to be like this. Well, I learned the courage to take my life is not within me. So, left with only one choice, I (we) must deal with the pain. This support group has a lot to offer. I appreciate you, Firewoman, and all of those people out there that truly make the difference. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Ken
