HELP please re fiber and flareup - Bowel Disorders Message Board

I have 4 days left on Flagyl and Cipro with no fiber, for diverticulitis flare up. Last time I began fiber after the antibiotics and it took awhile, causing straining and found myself with another flare-up very soon. I still have "gnawing" sensation in the lower left and slight pain after eating. Can anyone tell of their experience at this stage of treatment? Should I begin psyllium now when on antibiotics in spite of lower left sensation...I am becoming quite apprehensive and that doesn't help.... doctor is away...I can find no SPECIFIC info on this stage...HELP!

I wish i has an answer. The dr has put me on that med for U. C.
I can not imagiane not taking my fiber.

I find Flagyl keeps things moving, Mudhound...so need for Fiber not there while on it. It's coming off it that is a worry...

I had a really bad reaction to a drug in the same family as Cipro (Avelox), another floroquinolone antibiotic, and I've had gastro-intestinal issues ever since. It's like the drug gave me IBS or something, probably by killing all the good bacteria in my intestines, and causing ideopathic inflammation.

A drug like Augmentin is a whole lot safer.

thanks for the tip, I see the doctor next week so will ask about Augmentin. I've been on Cipro off and on for a long time...
