Does prune juice work all the time?

I have a problem with constipation, and id like to know does prune juice help you bowel move every time you take it? Or do you stop going to the bathroom once your stomach gets used to the prune juice?

Prunes as well as prune juice may work since it does not change very much/ oxidize like other juices. But only as long as you take it!!

To help your intestines function -- you really need to take enough fiber daily in your diet--- eat grains, fruits and veggies.

Magnesium aspartate is very effective in helping bowels to move. Start with 400mg and work up to 1200mg, depending on your personal bowel tolerance. Some find it effective with the smaller dose but most need about 800mg or slightly more. 1000 mg of VitaminC can also help.

Another good product is psyllium husks or powder. You can get psyllium in capsule form, it's not easy to swallow when mixed in water as it thickens quickly. You have to stir with a straw and drink fast. I use a product called Super GI Cleanse as it also helps to clean your colon. I get it at an online health food store. I take 3 capsules first thing every morning with a full glass of water.

One other method is to drink some fresh lemon juice in hot water first thing in the morning before eating. You can sweeten it if needed. It's important that the lemon water be as hot as you can drink it, as it's the hot liquid that will stimulate your bowels. Have never tried prune juice but you might can warm that up, too. Greens, kale, spinach, broccoli, etc., and sweet potatoes are also great to help with elimination.

Besides adding more fiber in the form of whole grains, (wheat, rice, bran) be sure to drink lots of water as that helps the fiber to flush out the bowels.

Re: To Sonflower..

Hey Sonflower1116,
Do you take Magnesium Asparate every day or just when you're constipated?

Just wondering because I got some Mag. Citrate and took 200mg. and it seemed to give me a laxative effect.

Does the Mag. Asparate soften the stool?

Do you steam your veggies??
