natural colon cleanse - Bowel Disorders Message Board

I would like to do a colon cleanse, but unfortunately most of the products out there have licorice root in them which is a no-no for people with hypertension like myself. Has anyone ever done a colon cleanse with natural products. I've seen some posts of people drinking hot water with lemon - what's that for? Is that for colon cleansing? Also, can one clean the colon by just doing a juice/water fast for a few days? thx.

Unitl I read your message, I did not know that there was a problem with licorice root and HBP. I have HBP and take meds for it. I'm also taking a colon cleanse product called "Super GI Cleanse" from UniKey Health. I looked at the ingredients on the label and it listed licorice root.

I came up with this information: "Potential causes of secondary hypertension is: "An extremely high intake of licorice root extract equivalent to 25 to 40 licorice candies a day for several years." - 2000 National Women's Health Resource Centers, Inc.

So, I don't think that the minute amount of licorice root in a colon cleanse would affect HBP. I've been taking mine for nearly 2 months and my blood pressure has remained fairly constant.

If you do find more helpful information, please post what you find here. I'm going to continue to look, myself.

I dont know if its natural - but Oxy-Clean worked wonders for me.

Could you please share your experience & info on Oxy-Clean?

I read about Oxy-Power or Powder? on one site & it said to stay "NEAR A BATHROOM" for 7 days! Don't think I could manage that!

I did like the sound of the "process" [oxygen cleansing] better than all the herbs & other cleansing, dosing, rituals I've read. Would appreciate your input on your experience.

Be happy to. FIrst off, it wasnt as bad as they say (about the being near a bathroom). I started mine on a Friday night - because the first 2 days are the worst. You have to 'dial yourself in' - meaning, figure out the dosage what will make you go 3-5 times a day. After you get your dosage figured out - its a breeze. The urges can be pretty powerful the first couple days - so I stayed home that weekend. After the weekend, it was very controllable. The stuff worked wonders for me. I felt better than I ever did during that week. I did get some weird sensations at night though for the first few days - I think that was the product cleaning out the impactions. At the end of the 7 days, they recommend doing a maintanance program of every other day. They actually say to do it for life - Im a little skeptical of that. TO be honest though, I maintained my dosage every other day for about 2 months and I had perfect bowel function - almost like I was cured of the IBS. Then I made the mistake of weening myself off of them and Im now right back to square 1. I may start all over again with it and see if I can get back to normal.
