Dee,
Insoluble fiber is fruits and veggies-- all greens don't contain soluble fiber and some fruit and veggies contain a little soluble fiber, nuts and seeds are insoluble --- the part that does not absorb water is basically insoluble. Fruit has its our juice but does not absorb any water.
Soluble fiber is in all grains except the outside husk like corn meal & grits, rice, oatmeal, barley, --- beans & peas like limas, red, black, pinto, green peas blackeye peas etc--the inside not the outside, Root veggies like carrots, potatoes, beets, turnips all absorb water-- and psyllium. Green beans are insoluble.
All meats, seafood and all dairy products do not contain any(ZERO) fiber.
Most books about nutition will tell you the amount of fiber in fruits and veggies.
Most people don't get enough fiber in their diet--- only about half the amount they need for a normal BM. I think the problem is we eat too much process food that just don't have the fiber.
I use psyllium supplement to provide about 7 grams of soluble fiber daily and have for over 20 years.
I have been on this board for almost 6 years -- writing this message-- do a search on Harry --- this is not new stuff!!
God Bless---Harry
