rectocele & using finger to help evacuate bowel

I recently had surgery for rectal prolapse and now have a substantial rectocele. I find that, with increasing frequency, I am unable to evacuate my bowel without inserting a finger into my rectum. I'd be interested in knowing whether this is dangerous, and whether anyone else is having this experience. I have recently had some more serious obstructions that seem to be cause by inflamed tissue in my bowel.

Re: rectocele & using finger to help evacuate bowel

I have heard most women who have that problem put finger in vagina to support the rectal wall for evacuation. Lots less messy, as well as less dangerous. In any case, I wouldn't consider that acceptable---can you imagine being 80 years old and having to persuade someone to help you every day with that???? I'd be on my doctor's doorstep tomorrow when his/her clinic opens, demanding some help!

Re: rectocele & using finger to help evacuate bowel

Hello~
I was wondering if you could help me. I have a rectal prolapse and a pelvic prolapse they said I have pelvic floor disorder. I looked up rectocele and am going to my doctor to ask about it. I am having a pelvic ultrasound done this wednesday. I was just wondering if you could give me any helpful advice on the prolapse and was also wondering if you also have the symptom of painful periods and with using tampons? This is the problem I am having and I just am wondering if it is connected with everything that is going on. Thank you.

Yes, pain and inability to use tampons are all related to pelvic floor disorder. Hope you get some relief SOON, and please keep us posted.
