Fissure?

I have a question for anyone who can help....
Back in August I was put on medication that I was later allergic to. It caused me to go to the bathroom countless times throughout the day which has since seemed to have cause an anal fissure. Or what I believe to be an anal fissure after researching the internet. I have a visible tear right on my anus and a skin tag has since now developled right next to the tear. I read on this board and on other sites that an anal fissure can heal on its own. So I have been waiting it out. Well it is now Jan and it is still there as well as the skin tag. Will this eventually go away or will I need the anal fissure surgery? What happens to the skin tag if it heals....does it remain?
Confused....
If anyone can offer an advice please write back
Thanks

Re: Fissure?

I'm dealing with something similar. I swear I developed a fissure after my first baby was born 4 years ago. I never went to see a doc, but since that time I have suffered with a sore bottom and a tear and skin tag that "never quite heals". I just went to see my doc yesterday, and have been given a referral to a surgeon. the appointment isn't until Feb 14 - Happy Valentine's Day to me You may want to see your doc and ask about this. I wish I would have had the courage to go a long time ago - it's been a long four years...

Re: Fissure?

I developed a fissure years ago. Didn't really do anything about it -just used some preperation H and ate a salad. Then 1 1/2 years ago, it really started bothering me. Lots of blood during BMs, burning, itching, etc. Then a second one formed! One on both sides. I went to the GP, he took a look and told me to eat more fiber. It didn't help.

I stuggled for a couple months, and then the spasms set in. I would wake up in the midlde of the night with rectal spasms so painful I almost had to be sedated.

So I went to see a colo-rectal surgeon. He took a closer look, saw the 2 fissures, said they were pretty bad, and prescribed diltiazem ointment. This seemed to work for a couple weeks (bleeding was greatly reduced, so was the pain), but then I managed to tear one of the fissures open again and I was back to square one.

I scheduled a LIS surgery, and had the procedure done on 12-16-04. The procedure was a breeze, with no complications. It was like getting a tooth pulled. I even had a BM one hour afterwards, and it didn't even hurt much.

But recover is NOT immediate. That is a high traffic area, and it takes time for things to go back to normal. I had another spasm a couple weeks later, but none after that. Bleeding continued for a few weeks, but then totally subsided (this is normal after surgery).

I watched what I ate and tried not to stress. I even went in for a colonoscopy to make sure I didn't have IBD. It was all clear (I was being paranoid).

Full recovery can be expected within 3-4 months following surgery. By full, I mean that you can eat whatever you want, without worrying about blood and pain.

Risks regarding the surgery are totally overblown. I had no incontinence or anything like that.

Now I feel great. One thing that will cause problems for anyone is drinking a lot of alcohol, not eating right, and then having super hard BMs the next morning. Avoid this, and you avoid fissures.

Re: Fissure?

Thank you so much for your response.

I also don't want to go to the doctor...I was hoping it would just heal. I am kinda embarrassed since I don't know what the whole thing intails. Did your doctor examine you and what exactly did the doctor do?
I am sure I will have to go see someone since the fissure is not healing at all. It seems to stay the same at all times. At times I don't feel any pain and I think it's healing but then I am wrong the pain comes and each time I check it out it looks the same UGH

Re: Fissure?

Thanks Chiggins
I am just going to have to go and see a doctor and get this taken care of. I have been eating a lot of fiber so my bowel movements are soft and that just doesn't seem to help. I took stool softeners which caused me to get extreme gas so I stopped taking those. But my bowel movements are pretty much soft and the fissure has not gotten any better.
I just can't believe this is happening it is the worst feeling when I go to the bathroom or when I do normal daily activities.
