From Constipation to Thin Stool to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
As of late I've been taking more notice of my BM because I've been told that passing blood in your stool maybe more than hemroids. So I'll give a breif history (sorry if I gross out people):
-For the past 2-3 years I've had some blood on my toilet paper but always tought it was hemroids (maybe it is).
-Since last December to the end of March, I had been passing blood in almost every bowel movement and sometimes even seeing the blood drip down.
-For the past month, I sometimes have a little of pink on the TP but that's about it.
Now for the BM. Everytime it's a little different....never know what's going to happen. The one that worry's me is going from Constipation (normal size) to Thin stool to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes time spand. And the Diarrhea is always very explosive. I can have these about 2-3 days in a row. But something that is always consistant is the thin stool. Always seems to happen in the second movement of my BM but this morning I only got thin stool. I also have plenty of mucus every 2-3 BM. Even some are just gas with yellow mucus.
I know I went in great detail but I am a engineer. Let me know what you think about my BM issues. And to let you know, I have a general check up scheduled in a week so I'll make sure to bring this up.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
I get some stress once in a while. I'll have to check with what types of BM it coincides with. No, I don't have any spinal issues.
A few more notes to add. During those 4 months of blood with stool, I had some that resulted in no stool but some blood. I also have cramps resulting in major gas on a daily basis. I've also been feeling very tired.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
You could be anemic and that's why you feel tired, I would ask your doctor to draw some labwork. Your symptoms do sound like IBS(except the blood), but you should ask the doctor to refer you to a gastroenterologist who can do a colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy and actually be able to view what is going on with you.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
Thanks for your replies! I've never thought twice about my health and always been the one not to complain.
As I was bleeding a lot for a while, I asked one my friend that is a nurse to check if I had hemroids. (yes, I have very good friends) She saw nothing external but said it could internal or a fissure. She then found me a doctor (Family doctors are hard to come by around here).
What really got me thinking is that a few weeks ago my friends mom got diagnosed with colon cancer. And while he was talking about her symptoms, it really got me thinking.
As for being Anemic, that could very well be the case as about 8 years ago I had a medical done for my new job and they called me back that there was something low in my blood but was just borderline. I can't remember what it was...was full of **** and vinegar back then.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
I really think you should have some diagnostic tests done to rule out colon cancer. The fact that you've been bleeding for awhile supports the idea that you could be anemic. Please follow up as soon as you can so you don't have to wonder and worry.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
CycloneSR-you've described a lot of the same symptoms I'm going through. Do you feel like you're consuming a lot more than what's coming out (sorry to be so gross)? I've been wondering if I have a partial bowel obstruction. Before I used to have the bright red blood, but now it's more of a watery pink most of the time as you described yours is. Could that be because the blood isn't exiting as quickly? Also the mucous-this sounds really stupid, but I wasn't sure if that's what I've been seeing or not, but your description helped me to figure out that it is. Every bowel movement that I have has that yellowish/brownish elastic/sticky substance. Sometimes that's all that comes out, along with the pinkish trail of blood.
Please keep us updated and good luck! I have a doctor's appt this afternoon (was supposed to go Monday but my doctor was sick) and if I find anything out I'll let you know. Oh-are you also experiencing abdominal pain? Or waking in the night to go to the bathroom?
Again-good luck!
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
You know that what you are describing can be a number of conditions from stress induced IBS and 'roids to the worst. Problems related to colon cancer are often not acted on soon enough because we can self medicate with OTC products pretty effectively for constipation, loose stools, 'roids etc with what we are able to easily access. You should not take a chance with a family history of colon cancer - it can not hurt (well maybe a little) to get checked out. Better safe than sorry. Once you know for sure that might relieve the stress that could be causing it! Early signs that could be cancer - especially for people with risk factors (easy enough to look up but family history is one of them as well as a low fiber diet) should never be self treated unless the potentially serious root causes are ruled out.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
I don't feel that what's coming in and coming out is out of proportion. But what I've learned to notice I can tell how much energy I'm going to have in my day depending on my BM. If I finish off with Diarrhea, I'm going to be full of energie. The harder it is the less energie I have. Maybe that is normal!
Quite a few months ago I used to wake up in the middle of the nite but usualy I'm a hard sleeper and takes quite a bit to wake me up. So what usualy happens is that I wake up with a cold sweat...then I run to the bathroom.
As of late, I have not seen much blood but I'm drinking quite a bit of orange juice to make it flow easier. But the thin stool still happens daily.
Good or bad, I'll keep you updated. What I find with these threads is that a lot of people have concerns but you don't always know what happened.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
Went to the doctor today-I'm frustrated and becoming depressed. I have another appt. in 2 weeks, more blood work tomorrow and another prescription. She was upset that my scope isn't until June, but it really can't be helped because I'm still healing from my last surgery.
She, like my colorectal surgeon, thinks I probably have colitis or Chron's. But still no diagnosis-just more doctor's appts and testing!!! It's really depressing to see doctors a couple times a month and still not know what's wrong with you and still suffer. But, what can you do?!!!?
Good luck to everyone else here that's playing the waiting game and still guessing!
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
My doctor's apointement is Thursday but I've pretty much ruled out hemroids. I'm 32 year old male in a pretty good physical shape. I bike quite a bit in the summer. I do 44 km's per ride and I've now gone out twice this year. In my mind, I don't think anybody could bike 44 km's with hemroids (external or internal) and my seat is one of those narrow ones.
But in the up side I've only seen blood a couple of times in the past few weeks.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
I went to see my doctor today. All my blood work was good...no issues...which I was pleased to hear. Then I started to discuss the blood and he said that it was normal for hemroids to do that. I then asked if a person with hemroids could bike 44kms and not have any pain. He then asked me if in the 3 months period it was just once in a while I had blood. I told him that for about 2-3 weeks in the period there was quite a bit of blood each time.
He then checked it out and told me there was a fissure. So he prescribed me some stool softner and wants to see me again in 3 weeks. If it does not improve he will send me to a specialist. I was very pleased with the way I'm being treated!!! I feel a bit releived...but now that I'm at this point I'd like for them to check it out so there is no maybe.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
Went to see my doctor again after taken the stool softener and suppositories for about 1 month. My stool has become softer but the bleeding has increased. Since my big bleeding from Jan-March....I had gone down to a couple of times per week...now I'm back to every BM.
My BM is almost always the same, about 12 inches of 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Then I wait a while and ribbon stool comes out for about 1-3 feet. After that I get the blood. To me, it would make sense that there is an obstruction?
So my doctor told me that he thinks that we did not give my fissure enough time but he refered me to a GI just in case because I've had blood for about 2 years. Now I wait another month for a apointement call.
I've gone biking today another 44km's and it did not hurt while nor after. So in my mind, whatever is bleeding must higher than what is impact attainable by the seat of my bike.
Re: From Constipation to Thin to Diarrhea all in about a 20 minutes
I can sympathize, Cyclone. My doctor made a referral for me to see a GI, and the soonest I can get in isn't until mid-September. I've been seeing doctors with this problem since January-September will make it 9 months of suffering and not getting much of anywhere.
