Diverticulitis on Right side? - Bowel Disorders Message Board

I was just wondering if anyone has had diverticulitis on their right side. I know it commonly occurs on the left side. I am having lots of problems with right side pain, getting more frequent over the past few months, lots of bm's, no issues with constipation. Today it is occuring in tandem with multiple trips to the bathroom (very urgent). Doc has prescribed ponstan to help with the pain. The pain is not really severe, but it is uncomfortable and intermittent throughout the day. Had a barium enema April 2005 that was normal. Any thoughts? They have ruled out UTI and ovary issues.

Pain on the right side is not as common as the left, but is not unheard of. My pain was on the right side - not all the way over to the appendix area, about midway between the center of my lower abdomen and the appendix area.

The sigmoid section of the colon twists back over to the center before it goes to the rectum, so it can be a little over to the right. In my case, the was an abscess growing off the colon that was pushing to the right . . . or that's how the doctors explained the pain on the right, anyway.

Are the frequent trips to the restroom because of the bladder or intestines or both?

Thanks for your reply auntjudyg. The frequency yesterday was due to the intestines. I had to stay home all morning as a result

The pain persisted all day (no further bm's after noon), through the night (with twinges near my right hip bone) and continues today. I was hoping it would be gone by now. BM does not seem to ease it, in fact flares it a bit. Yesterday was the first day that I could definately correlate it to my intestines, most times I have the pain, but no identifiable issues with bm's.

Sigh. perhaps it's just ibs, and maybe the sooner I get my head around that the better.

Hi I have had diverticulitis on the right side a number of times I have the pouches all over my bowel and so I have trouble in every area. I also got some infection set in to connected to the bowel in that area, they were surprised about the right side and so they did a ct scan and what not and it showed just what it was but they were sure it was my appendix.
