i've been battling mono for the last few months, the feverish feelings are starting to finally subside a bit, still get em but the intervals between flare ups are spreading further apart slowly as time goes on thank god. My tonsils are still inflamed a bit with whitish spots that smell aweful, which is worrying me. At any rate, i've quit smoking cigarrettes, quit drinking coffee and soda almost entirely, also eating healthier... at one point i swore i had candidiasis but got two cultures and both negative. i'm still feeling the fatigue and bouts of depression that go along with mono...
My number 2's are very stinky tho. They smell putrid (eek! but they do), they are pretty soft also. I thought that this was a result of taking a couple cycles of antibiotics but now i've been off them for a fewweeks now and still no change.
Is this a result of Mono? Will it go away on its own?
Should i be doing some sort of intestinal cleansing?
Were you taking any probiotics while you were on the antibiotics? ABs wipe out the "good bugs" in your gut, as well as the bad guys elsewhere. Usually, a well-entrenched colony of "good bugs" will help break down the nasties that cause that bad odor.
If you haven't tried taking a probiotic supplement (health food store -- many brands available), or eating a serving or two of yogurt w/active cultures each day, that would be a good place to start. Might take a few weeks before you really see a difference, but it should help.
IMO, "intestinal cleansing" could set back the whole process of re-establishing gut flora balance. As long as you are not extremely constipated, give the probiotics a chance first.
thanks for replying i appreciate your response. I tried actually taking some acidophilious culture pills, they are the strongest i could find at GNC, 5 billion CFU at 71mg it says, however i stopped taking them because they seemed to be making my stools a bit creamier and smellier then normal. This concerned me a bit because the acidophilous pills are supposed to help and not make things worse. but perhaps it was because i still had antibiotics working inside me, i am not sure what's going on
I'm actually not constipated, since i quit smoking cigarrettes i've been eating a lot, so going is not often a problem, its just that it takes a while for cleanup. When i've quit smoking in the past for 2 month intervals i remember my stools hardened up nicely and were healthy and consistent. I've quit smoking for 3 months now and ,.... well ever heard of the saying "what crawled inside you and died?" this can't be good tho if it smells that badly inside me
