| Re: strange pain (cramp?) around rectum or anus....
Sorry, I just saw your post.....there is a muscle right inside the anus that is causing your pain. When this muscle cramps or spasms, it causes a highly uncomfortable pain inside. There's a thread on here somewhere if you want to do a search for it, with several other people talking about it, too. When you mentioned you've had it before but only for a few minutes, that's actually the more common symptom of this - it appears suddenly, is painful and highly uncomfortable, and will slowly subside on it's own, or some people find that having a bowel movement will help as it stretches that muscle and stops the spasm. There is actually a name for this, it starts with a 'P' but I don't recall what it is. It affects males more often than females but I'm female and have had this for a few years now, and it has slowly gotten worse, from maybe once a year and only for a few minutes to now maybe once every couple of months. I actually had your exact symptoms when I finally went to the doctor because it wouldn't go away and I, too, found it very irritating and worrisome. I was fine and told not to worry about it, that it would eventually go away, which it did. But that was the only time I had it for any extended period of time, like you...most of the time it was just for a few minutes and then it would go away. And I haven't had it like that since. Yours will go away eventually too....has it at least lessened in it's being uncomfortable? Mine did gradually but it took about a month before it was completely gone. Just wait and let it subside on it's own, but I think just knowing other people get this and that it even has a name should help you tremendously.
