Just wanted to ask a question. I have been having severe cramping and pain for along time, during a colon cleanse i did last year i guess i opened up a problem that was hidden due to some blockage. I havent been the same since. I will have the urge to all of the sudden go to the bathroom and i feel as though it is coming out and when i finally run to the toilet it either wont come out or some will and i dont feel as though it is all out. I am not constipated and i dont have diarreah (sp?) I had a barium enema done and it showed everything was normal but my bloodwork came back inflammation. I have Crohns, colitis and colon cancer that run in my family as well. I am scheduled to see a GI soon, but what I am wondering is;

What can the colonoscopy see that the barium cant?

I know that the colonoscopy you can take a biopsy and remove polyps but can they see why something is inflammed?

When the balloon was inserted in the rectum and blown up I almost died of severe pain. I was told by them that wasnt supposed to hurt, just feel uncomfortable. What would be the reasoning behind that pain. Or the inflammation from the bloodwork?

They will see the inflamed area. Then they will take a biopsy of the inflamed area and hopefully find out the cause of the inflammation from the biopsy they take.

thank you for your response. Could it be Ibs or am I looking more along the lines of Crohns or colitis?

The ballon is inserted in the rectum so that the barium does not come out as it flows in your colon. The rectum is about 8 inches long then it connected to the sigmoid colon--- the pain could have pressed on a sensitive hemorrhoid in the rectum area.

A colonoscopy allows the doctor to look and see all parts of the colon including the rectum and take a biopsy where it is needed. The worse part is the cleaning -- prep!

Crampng as well as spasms in any part of the body can be a sign that you lack magnesium in your diet. Every cell in your body is suppose to contain magnesium and lacking it in any muscle including the intestinal muscles that move digested food can result in cramping or muscle spasms.
