How long before pepto is out of your system?

Last week I took pepto Friday, Sat and Sunday. Sunday morning my bowel movement was black and I read that was a side effect of pepto. I just had another bowel movement this morning and its still black. Should it still be in my system or is it blood?

Since you took pepto for a few days, it will take a few days to get totally out of your system.

If by say, the weekend, your stool is still black, then I would perhaps mention it to your doctor. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry.

Re: How long before pepto is out of your system?

Well, one of the main reasons people take Pepto is to stop diarrhea, so taking a lot of it can certainly "back you up" a bit, especially if you're really sensitive to it.

To help with your constipation, try and have a few high-fiber foods, like bran, fruits and vegetables, etc. Make sure you drink enough water, though, because fiber without enough water can actually make constipation worse.
