Blood when passing a motion

Hi All

I was hoping someone could help me, maybe to help put my mind at rest.

I am a healthy, fit and active 30 year old female who worksout 5 times a week walks everywhere including at least 2 miles a day with my dog. I am also a vegetarian and eat a healthy high fibre, mostly organic diet with little fat or dairy produce in it, I use soya alternatives.

I have a back problem with I used to take high doses of votarol for the pain for many years but exercise and conditioning work has helped me for the last 7 years and I have not taken these painkillers.

My problem started about 8 months ago I had blood on the toilet tissue after a bowel motion. This went away after two days and my GP said it was probably internal piles.

About 5 weeks ago it happened again so I went back to the doctors and she gave me some suppositories to insert into my anus and said these would help. I would like to point out on this occasion it was again red blood and not much, almost watered down.

The bleed stopped by the next day so I didnít use this medication and then about a week later I had bad toothache so I tool some tablets that had codeine and ibrobrufen in them (I also took these for about 4 days before the second bleeding incident) and the morning after this there was an alarming amount of blood both on the tissue and in the bowl.

I telephoned my GP and she has referred me to a specialist for a flexible sigmoidoscopy, which is going to happen in 2 weeks time. For the last 2 days I have had bleeding again, but only very light watery blood on the tissue and once there was a small amount on the outside of my poo.

I suffer from anxiety and worry and I am convinced I am dying and I canít sleep or do anything as I am sure I am going to get bad news.

I donít know what Iím looking for in response from you guys but your advice and past experience may help settle me a little.

Thanks

From a very worried person

Re: Blood when passing a motion

I just had a colonoscopy - and was also worried beforehand because of passing blood for several months. Once it was enough blood that turned the toilet water red. Usually it was streaks on the outside of the stool. But they found nothing serious. Just some internal hemerhoids. Try not to worry between now and the test.
