Colitis again or something else .....

Hello!! This is my first post in here, and sorry if my english is not great
Ok...here is the problem.
I'm 25 years old male. 2 years ago (april 2004) i was diagnosed (colonoscopy) with ulcerative colitis in rectum and some part of sigmoid region. (i had diarrhea , blood in stool, mucus) Other than that everything was ok.
More than one year after taking some medications (sulfasalazine) i was ok. Even now i feel complitly ok (still taking salazapyrine), but for more than year almost everyday i have again blood in stool (that is formed, no diarrhea, once or twice a day).
I know that it is probably not hemmorhoides because thay can't last that long?? (Or maybe thay can??)
I told that to my doctor and he said not to worry about that (blood analyse 6 months ago was ok, ESR 4, CRP about 1, everything else was normal).
Blood is red, on toilet paper, and maybe few drops sometime after stool is out.
Almost everytime whan i wake up max. 30 min after that i have feeling that i must rush to bathroom. Maybe there is some mucus , but in very small amount.
Sometime (not always) one hour after first time i have to go again and than stool is usually thin. (If i remember good first time i had problem in 2004, after diarrhea is gone, same thing happend, first is normal, after hour or so sometime thin).
I have appoitment at doctor on 6. november, off course i will tell him again about blood not stopping, but now i am little scared because i'm not sure is this some easy relapse.

I would like to know is it possible for colitis (or proctitis this time if that is problem) to show no inflamation on blood test, and to bleed for year and show no other symtoms (exept feeling to go to wc immediately).
Or i should really be scared of something else???

Sorry if i make this too long .
Thanks for your response.
BYE!

Re: Colitis again or something else .....

Thanks for your reply...
Yestarday i did another blood analyse. Again everything was normal , and no sign of inflamation.
Esr 2
Crp 0,6
Everything else also normal...
But still blood everyday.
One friend that also have colitis told me that his doc. says that it is no unusual for colitis (especially when limited to lower parts) to bleed even when there is no evidence that there is inflamation, and that can last for long time, even years...

I really hope that it is just from colitis...

Re: Colitis again or something else .....

Hi...you're having a flare, and you should be treated with rectal meds, preferably a 5ASA retention enema. Depending on the country you are in...it would be either Salofalk, Rowasa or Pentasa.

No one bleeds for a year after diagnosis and call it "normal" for UC, no matter what a blood test says...I've never heard of that line before.

Your urgency and now frequency to have bms is clear your rectum is inflamed. The fact you don't have diarrhea is good, however...that would mean the sigmoid isn't yet involved in this flare and that the oral meds are doing their thing.

Remember, UC starts at the rectum, your flares will always involve the rectum, and no matter how high the inflammation goes...rectal meds should be used.

I was diagnosed with UC over 17 years ago (proctosigmoiditis), and from using 5ASA meds properly (oral and rectal) and treating flares earlier and earlier....I haven't bled with a flare in over 14 years.

Do you possibly have a fissure as well?

When was your last c-scope? Maybe your doctor will set you up for another one to recheck and take more biopsies...something is definitely going on.

quincy

I was at doctor office and he says that i do have some mini flare, and gave me salofalk supposatories beside sulfasalazyn.
And to come again to see him in 3 mohths.
Blood test showed nothing because it is too low.
