Angry  Doctor's wont listen

hi, my name is cathy. my boyfriend is having serious leg and back problems, he is in pain 24/7, he was diagnosed about 7 months ago with crhons disease, he had a kidney removed about 5 months ago, The pain however remained, it has actaully gotten worse alot worse, the doctor who did the operation wont talk to us without an appointment. The original gastrologist has said that there is nothing more he can do, that he needs another specialist, come on how many specialist for 1 condition can there be, We know there is something wrong, each doctor we have been to says there is something wrong, we live like 2 hours away from these doctors and we have explained to them that the drive is almost impossible due to his pain and the pain of the price of gas, The family doctor wont prescribe him anything for pain that works, is treating him like a guinnie pig. It has been almost 2 weeks since he has felt relief from anything. The nurses who answer the phone said to him, no more pills for you the mri came back negative, i just wanna smack her, who cares what the mri says, you cant see crhons with a regular mri result, let me take her kidney and see how she feels..... i have a question though???????????

1. he has purple blotches and leg swelling all the way from the calf down to the toes? can someone please tell me what these might be? the doctor says she does not know,

2. does anyone know of any good site that is about crhons, leg pain, and back pain?

thank you

Re:  Doctor's wont listen

hi there,
I feel for you and your boyfriend. I know all about doctors not listening to their patients. It's certainly not easy to deal with especially when you are suffering so terribly and your emotions come into play. It's really tough.

First off I really think that you need to make an appointement for your boyfriend to see the doctor that did his operation. He needs to be able to take up his concerns with him and he needs to hear directly from his doctor that his back and leg pain either are or are not related to his surgery.

You may want to look into getting a second opinion as far as a family doctor goes. That is unacceptable for the secretary/doctors nurse to say that over the phone without allowing you to talk to your doctor. Unfortunatly the said part is you will have to make these appts and ensure that you are able to get him to the appts. I hear you about the 2 hour drive and the price of gas but it has to be done. The longer you guys wait for it to possibly get better, the worse it may get.

The other option you have is to take him directly to the ER. If you explain his situation and his past medical information they will likely take it very seriously and they should take care of him right on the spot. This may be your best option. He may be lucky enough to get all of the needed tests done all in one shot.

I do not know what his leg symptoms are a result of. I also am not aloud to post another website on here, it's against the rules. However, there is a section on here for kidney disorders, it may help you to post there. And there isn't a Chrons section but there is a bowel disorders section that you may want to check out.

I wish you and your boyfriend the best of luck. I hope things start to look up for him. Feel free to keep me posted with what goes on. Best of luck. Beachgirl.

This could be purpura. It sounds like it is and it can be caused by many different things like autoimmune diseases as well as other problems. Lower legs are a common place for it to appear. Many times it happens more at night time.

Re:  Doctor's wont listen

Wow, I would be mad too. Remember, you are paying these doctors, or your insurance is so get tough with them. I agree with the other post that perhaps you should get him to the ER. You will have the quickest results, get the pain meds he needs even if only temporarily and other test run. With his recent Chrons diagnosis and surgery, it is very important for him to see his gastro doctor for a follow up. This is a very nasty disease that rears its ugly head whenever it feels like it. If his symptoms aren't related to his surgery or the disease itself, that doctor will surely let him know. My mother has had the disease all of her adult life. There have been so many advances in the last decade that she is finally able to have a good quality of life now so I pray your boyfriend will too. It wreaks havoc on the body and the soul so bless you for being there for him.

If you don't like your doctors, get your medical records from the current one (takes only a phone call and pick them up) and find a new one, don't let them give you the run around. It is frustrating and expensive as you well know. Good luck and we are all her for you!

Re:  Doctor's wont listen

If the MRI is negative.. that is a good thing. No spine issues. But his back pain is more than likely related to the chrons. My son was 18 and they thought he had the begnning stages of chrons. What a horrible disease to have. I feel for your boyfriend. It needs to be closely monitored.

I wouldnt hesitate to go to the ER. And I would be changing doctors to be honest. If they aren't readily assisting.. it's time for a switch. Im glad you are so supportive of your boyfriend.

Take care and let us know how things are going.
