Resting my digestive system...

Well, day one of my fast is coming to an end, and I'm not very hungry right now. Made some apple juice in the juicer, and have been drinking plenty of water.

I decided I had to take this course of action. I can't see any other way to let my rectal inflammation heal without just not passing anything for a week or so (hoping it'll only be a week). This will also give me a chance to clean out some toxins, and when I break the fast, I can slowly reintroduce some foods and see what digests well and what doesn't.

I'm praying once this inflammation heals, I will not have Proctitis anymore. I've heard acute Proctitis can go away once it heals, but chronic doesn't. I'm not sure which I have, but I suspect the trauma of having a bad fissure and having surgery on it may have caused it to start. Plus, the doctor had me on some anti-bacterials for a month and didn't give me any dietary advice except to stay away from alcohol. I've since learned that the anti-bacterials kill off good and bad intestinal bacteria, and the things you eat following that can affect whether the good or bad come back as the majority.

Re: Resting my digestive system...

i dont know your whole situation...

but...you can buy acidophillus(sp) in the supplement section of any store.... it's the "good" bacteria you need in your gut for proper digestion, etc. I hear some people take them just during and after taking antibiotics...but you can take them as a daily supplement! Maybe that would help your situation...

Re: Resting my digestive system...

I only found out about probiotics after all this stuff started. You'd think doctors would tell you these things when they prescribe something like that to you. Like "By the way, the bad bacteria love sugars and meats. Here, take these supplements to keep your good bacteria high." But no, if a doctor didn't invent the treatment himself, or if it's in any way even remotely considered an alternative treatment, they won't tell you about them.

Anyway, day two is in the books. Not that hungry really. Made some melon and strawberry mixtures in the juicer that were good, but I put waaay too much garlic in the carrot-celery juice. One small bowel movement - the remnants of Tuesday's last supper, I suppose. Hopefully that's it for digestive activity so my system can divert its energy toward tissue repair and healing.

Re: Resting my digestive system...

3 days down. Today is day 4, and this is easier than I thought it would be! The only thing I miss are my food "rituals". I love going out to lunch to break up the workday, and I am a good cook, so I miss not having to make any meals.

As for any benefits - I've noticed my butt doesn't stay sore as long after after waste is passed. Also, if I pass gas, I don't feel any feeling of irritation. I had a small BM yesterday which was accompanied by a little bit of bloody mucous, but I think it's less than it had been.

My energy level is decreasing though, and I plan on doing a lot of resting on the couch and watching movies and football this weekend.

Anyway, I'm hoping that by this Tuesday, the inflammation will have subsided and healed up, and I can put this whole Proctitis thing behind me (pardon the pun!).

Re: Resting my digestive system...

Well, I'm now into day 5. Haven't had a BM since Friday afternoon (I'm not doing a cleanse, as that would defeat the purpose of my particular reason for fasting). Butt feels totally normal. However, when I put in the Canasa suppository last night, there was still a burny feeling up in there when it first went in. I'm worried that as soon as I return to solid foods, the inflammation will not be fully gone and it'll be irritated again.
