Soluble Fiber or Insoluble Fiber ... Which one?

Hi there,

I posted earlier about my stools being flat and ribbon like and someone mentioned adding fiber to add some bulk ... the fiber i bought is called ULTRA FIBER Soluble Fiber .... now im reading about Insoluble Fiber and wondered if im taking the wrong one?
Does anyone know what Metimusal is? Soluble or insoluble?

Also does anyone feel the tablets or the powder is better?

How long will or should it take once you start using it to notice more reg shaped round stools?

Thanks!

cath,

Metamucil is mostly soluble fiber. It is a bulking agent and absorbs fluid.

A flat type stool usually indicates that you are taking mostly insoluble fiber. You need more soluble fiber that absorbs fluids

The question of Fiber keeps coming up so I wrote a post in the Sticky thread at the top of this page --"Information Archive" about fiber-- it is the last post-- It may be worst reading.

I like the powder form of fiber best because it is well dispersed in water when I drink it. But, others like the capsules better but they need to drink lots of water.

Re: Soluble Fiber or Insoluble Fiber ... Which one?

Harry,

Thank you for the reply ... The fiber tablets i have say Daily Source of SOLUBLE Fiber 700mg Chicory Fiber

I started taking them on Sunday 3 tabs 3X day .... I usually have flat ribbon like stools normally about 6 times a day but today i have only went once and my stool was still flat and kind of fluffy flat if that makes sence?

Do the fiber tabs take awhile to take affect do you know? And do they slow the number of times you have to have bowel movements?
