Thumbs up well, surgery number 21 coming soon!!

I am a 43 year old british subject living in norfolk and have had 20 operations on my bowels starting with an ulser, obstruction, hernia repair, hernia repair, hernia repair fistula from small/large bowel and many more operations to remove infected matter (mess residue). The problem now is that my symptoms are worse and my medical team were reluctant to perform more surgery, now 7 months on I have got agreement that more surgery is required but..................... high chance of ending up with a bag and on parential feeds for the rest of my life, but take heart all others going through the same as me, at least we have the chance of getting our lives back!!
Here is a list of the story so far.............
1994 ulser, due to air present under diaphram
1995 insisenal hernia
1996 hernia over the mesh
1997 larger repair due to hernia over mesh again
1997 infection in the mesh causing infection, op to remove 50% of mesh
1997 infection not under control, all of mesh removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1997 infected tissue removed
1998 infection burst thru abdominal wall leaving fistula
1998 large amout of bowel removed due to infection, wound left open and cleaned daily with peroxide and salt water
fistula grew to size of a grape fruit, clostomy bag worn and hickman line fitted for direct feeding into blood stream, nil by mouth
1999 (thats right, a year nil by mouth and with a fistula on my abdomen) refered to hope hospital salford and major op to close wound and seal bowel
2004 op to tidy deep scar (unsucessful)

present day, unable to work, very bad pain when I eat, mayor problems with bowel movements, not feelin to happy!!!

So as I said at the begining of this thread, op 21 hear I come!!

Oh my, what an ordeal you have been through. I certainly hope that you will be able to get your life back. When is your surgery?

I certainly will be thinking of you.

Maggie

Wow, that is so horrific. I'm very sorry to hear about all of your problems with your bowels! Hopefully 21 will be the magic number!

Have you actually been diagnosed with any illness? Which has caused all these problems?

Re: well, surgery number 21 coming soon!!

it started with an ulser!!! each and every other op has been for complications, my claim to fame is that I was the most costly patient at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in 1999 (stoma bags at £45 per day and parential feeds at £1000 a day helped the total along!).
