feeling unwell in mornings - diarreah

I am hoping to find some help somewhere, so thought I'd give this board a try.

I had my gall bladder out 3 months ago which has resulted in diarrhea each morning. I am now on Questran which has helped the diarrhea.

The problem is that I seem to have this weird thing happen to me. I find it hard to describe but I'll try.

I can wake in the morning feeling not quite 100%. I get up and try to get over it, but feel yuk. There is no pain at all. I just don't feel right.

This first started happening when I had the diarrhea problem. I would notice that the days I felt like this the diarrhea was worse.

Sometimes when this happens I would feel some or all of these symptoms - tired, dizzy, very thirsty, ill - like I just needed to lie down but not nauseaus.

Other times if it's not as bad I just feel unwell but carry on my morning.

Usually by late morning I am feeling "normal" again.

I can have a great week feeling fine then out of the blue, have a really bad morning. Then I can have three bad mornings in a row and then go on to have a week feeling fine.

I cannot work out WHY or WHAT causes this. I have kept a diary of all I eat and there is no pattern or sense to this problem.
My Dr doesn't know although she has sent me on to a GI specialist.

I KNOW that all this started when I had my gb removed. I wonder if it is linked to my bowels.

Please give my your 2c worth on this, I'm getting desperate.
The anxiety/fear is becoming big for me. I wake and wonder if I feel OK today - I am worried about making appointments incase I'm not feeling OK that day etc.

It's a crazy way to live life when 3 months ago all was OK.

Re: feeling unwell in mornings - diarreah

If the diarreah is caused by a germ, try this salt formula. It works for me when I am sick.

1 quart water
8 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt

I usually half the recipe, as only a few sips are needed.

Re: feeling unwell in mornings - diarreah

Diarrhea after GB removal is unfortunatly very common, especially in the morning after your first meal or drink. My doctor did sereval tests only to find nothing and diagnose me with IBS. Search "bile salt diarrhea" and you will find good information. I have heard of people taking calcium carbonate to help the symptoms.

Good Luck

Re: feeling unwell in mornings - diarreah

Hi there,
Thanks for the information.
I have heard that diarrhea is common, but I haven't yet talked to anyone who only has it first thing in the morning. Does anyone know WHY I only get diarrhea first thing?

From what I've read, most people who have trouble with diarrhea after GB removal, seem to have continual diarrhea after eating. Mine is certainly not like that, in fact it is now 3.5months since my surgery and I am able to eat anything, anytime and I will still only get diarrhea around breakfast time. Very weird I thought.

Thanks
