Safe Laxative

Could somebody recommend a safe laxative? I've never used one before, but want to to relieve constipation. I purchased some pills that said they were "gentle", but I'm a little afraid to use them. Do they cause stomach cramps, diarrhea, gas or anything like that? Do they interact with other medications? I don't want to be in pain or tied to the bathroom, so I'd appreciate your advice.

Re: Safe Laxative

Hi,

I had rectal surgery and needed some help going and found milk of magnesia to be very gentle. It did not cause any cramping whatsoever, and I took it at night and was able to go in about 12 hours. I took 1 tablespoon to start, if that doesn't do it, you can repeat. I never took more than 2 doses, was successful, and definitly not tied down to the bathroom. Hope it helps!

I agree Milk of Magnesia is about the most gentle laxative to use.

Remember repeated use of laxatives can cause you to become dependant on them!!
