Son had Colostomy 2 weeks ago
My 25 year old son was diagnosed w/ulcerative colitis 5 weeks ago. Four days after he was diagnosed he was hospitalized and was put on prednisone and other steroids in hopes that it would heal the colon. After that didn't work, he was put on cyclosporin for 1 week, but the colon was too diseased. He had it removed on Feb. 7th. I was told that after surgery he would be home in 5-7 days, but that has not happened. He recently was moved to a hospital closer to home. Now they think he has a fistula and needs to see the surgeon on Tuesday. He was diagnosed w/schizophrenia a few years ago and lives a very active life.
I am going to meet him at the hospital on Tuesday, but I am just so discouraged. He went from 330 (normal weight was 260) down to 175 now. I am not sure what kinds of questions to ask the surgeon on Tuesday. If anyone that has gone through a colostomy can give me some insight on what kinds of questions to ask, I would greatly appreciate it.
