guaifenesin can cause constipation as it is a decongestant and works to dry up mucous and runny noses. If it dries up those things then it will dry you out as well. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids while taking the cold medicine. Not long after I had LIS surgery a few months back, I got a cold and had to take cold medication that started constipating me. That was when my colon/rectal surgeon told me to beware of cold medications, they can cause constipation.
