Im so confused about my BM's

i dont know if i have IBS, i had a scpope about 6 years ago and it came back fine. For the past 6 years or so my bm's have always been loose i rarely have a solid one. ive started trying psyllium husk, 2 teaspoons twice a day but am yet to see any benefit. Last night i have a bowl of all bran and this morning ive hardly been off the toilet!! i dont understand whats going on here, any idea? I occasionally have blood on the toilet paper too.

I have IBS and your symptoms sound like mine when it first started. My tummy was upset all the time, frequent loose bowel movements to where I had to call into work, felt sick all the time, always blood on the TP after every movement. I was diagnosed back in 2001. The did a colonoscopy and said it was fine, but couldnt find anything else wrong, so they told me it was IBS. As the years have gone by the BM have been very irregular, sometimes loose and sometimes I cant go at all for 3-7 days. I know you said that the all bran made it worse. In the beginning of all my symptoms nothing helped. They did put me on a med called Robinul and it really helped with the spasms. I am finally normal and have changed my diet. I eat more fruit and have yogurt everyday. The yogurt really seems to help my digestive track. I also do eat a bowl of "All Bran with yogurt bites" daily. I would see a doctor definately. You need to rule out any other problems it could be.

the dr prescribed me buscopan a while back is that similar to the med you were prescribed?Also what kind of diet are you following now? thanks

Im not sure of the med you are taking. I honestly never heard of it before. The robinul helped me so much! It did take about a month to really feel benefits from it, but it worked great. I cant take it currently though, I have a blood clot in my leg caused from other problems and am taking coumadin, which interacts with everything. So the IBS is a little bothersome lately, but my diet everyday consits of All Bran for breakfast with a lil cup of fruit or yogurt. I eat yogurt daily, It really helps me feel good. For lunch I usually eat a sandwich (meat or pb&j) and dinner usually chicken or beef, corn or green beans are good, maybe another fruit cup and i usually try to eat some kind of Carb like pototoes or bread or pasta...You need to find what trigers your symptoms. Things that make it loose for me are caffeine (soda and coffee), most ice creams, doughnuts give me GI upset, salad is the worst. I know they say people with IBS should eat lots of leafy veggies and things like broccoli, but they make mine worse. They make me feel very gasey and my intestines feel cramped. Things that cause constipation for me are milk, caffeine sometimes bothers me in both ways so i just drink caffeine free products, too much red meat is very bothersome. Try to keep a log of what you are eating and see if certain things bother you more than others. Best of luck to you. I know it's a very difficult problem to deal with everyday and most people just don't understand what you are going through.

have you thought about a colon cleanser i use one it helps alot.

Blood on tiolet paper is often a result of hemmorhoids. If you see blood on the stool or floating in the toilet that is a definate sign to see your doctor asap.

Just curious, what kind of water do you drink? City water, bottled water, country water/well that is not properly sterilized? Certain bacteria in water can cause constant loose stools. It's one of the first things my GI doctor had asked me many years ago.

Because you have been unable to get your stools under control I really suggest you see a GI specialist there may be more going on than you think. Fiber should help bulk up the stool but you do need a minimum of 30mg a day to make a big difference.
