getting rid of barium - Bowel Disorders Message Board

i need advice on how can i get rid of barium from my body quickly.

last thursday i had a cup of barium to have an x-ray test of my stomach. today (tuesday) i was supposed to have CT (computed tomography), but they couldn't do it because my bowels were full of barium. i was told to come back on friday. today took bisacodyl and had a microenema and keep drinking smoothies all day. will repeat that on the day before CT.

does anyone know if there's anything else i could do to speed up the process or maybe there's something that neautralises barium? or anything else? any advice will be appreciated!

Hi Sunday

I have had two bariums and the only way i go get it out of my system was drinking plenty of water to neutralise the barium.

thanks. do you know how long it took for you to get rid of it completely? i keep drinking lots of liquids as i need it to be out by friday to have my CT scan..
do you by any chance know if they can perform CT with small ammounts of barium left? i'm having lower abdomen CT and today they said my bowels were full of barium even if it's been a few days since i drank it and went to toilet 3 times.
