Question Hemorrhoidectomy Soon

Hi all
I am sheduled for a hemorrhoidectomy the 6th of April and am scared to death. I have been having lots of pain in stomach and was hospitalized 2 weeks ago for 5 days for what they say was acute diverticulious. They did cat scan which showed I had narrowing in the sigmoid colon and the dr ordered the scope test which they saw I have hemorroids that were to big to be removed with lazer surgery. They didnt mention the sigmoid narrowing so I assume that was nothing, but did say I had upper GI bleeding and needed the endoscope.. Christ it never stops does it?

After reading the board, I am not sure what to expect, Like how long to recover, the doc told me I would be off work for 3 weeks . Is that correct or does it take longer? Also I am freaking just a bit about the pain after surgery and not sure if i really want to do this surgery. So I guess another question is can one live with hemmorroids and not have surgery? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Wink Re: Hemorrhoidectomy Soon

look up at the sticky thread on hemorrhoids blues ,lots of information.
i had hemorrhoid and fissure surgery all at once.hemmroid surgery is one of the
most painful to recover from,it could take up to three months or more.
you need to set up a system before surgery to have soft free flowing bm,
if you do not your setback are in for recovering faster.start on colace ,bran
and fiber drink and lots of water.there are many you been impacted after
surgery ,take moms for a few days after to make sure it does not happen.
there will be pain and blood after surgery ,but it will get better,i did ,i have painfree bm now and it was worth it. do the surgery make sure its with a colorectal surgeon ,board certified .there is no room for error down .

Re: Hemorrhoidectomy Soon

Exactly why do you need a hemorrhoidectomy? Are you having EXTREME pain? Are you having EXTREME bleeding? If not, DON'T have a hemorrhoidectomy. Every day I wish that I could go back and undo having my hemorrhoidectomy. I had mine 6 months ago today. I am still not better. I now have a fissure that I acquired from having too much tissue removed down there. A fissure is 100 times more painful than my worst hemorrhoid. I think that if I hadn't acquired the fissure (which not everyone gets from a hemorrhoid surgery), that I might have been all better in like 2-4 months.

I have another hemorrhoidectomy friend who did not get a fissure and she regrets having the surgery too. She is still having some minor issues with gas and an occasional painful bm and she had her surgery 5 months ago.

If for some reason you really do need to have a hemorrhoidectomy then please follow the advice that Lodgen has given you. Pick your colorectal surgeon VERY carefully. Try to get a recommendation of a good one from someone you know. My stupid surgeon did NOT give me any pre-operative instructions which did not help my situation. You need to completely empty out yourself before hemorrhoid surgery and then make sure to eat lightly afterwords so that you don't get impacted.

Please consider NOT having the surgery if you don't really need it. I have heard other hemorrhoidectomy patients say that they had one or more of the following surgeries: a brain surgery, prostate surgery, cancer surgeries, and multiple other ones that sound terrible. They ALL stated that the hemorrhoidectomy took the CAKE!!! IT WAS THE WORST TO RECOVER FROM!!!

I have learned a lot about hemorrhoidectomies in the last 6 months. I wish that I had learned more about them before deciding to have one as I would NEVER had had one.

Re: Hemorrhoidectomy Soon

i agree with ericollin that if you are not bleeding or having painfull bm
everyday or its a constant problem,do not get surgery try the system of
stool softeners, bran, fiber drinks and water.hemmroids will come back if
your stools are not soft and freeflowing, fissure surgery is not as painful
to recover from but having a fissure is very painful and i dealt for
two years and could not take it anymore. if you trust your doctor and
need it get it over with.

Re: Hemorrhoidectomy Soon

Well honestly I dont know why I am having this surgery except for the surg who did the scope told me I need to have them removed. As I said in my previous post I have constant stomach pain so bad that I am doubled up, I also have gained weight like crazy but dunno why except maybe because of being constipated. But I dont see how that can have anything to do with hemmorroids. I have constipation almost daily. I dont have painful bms or bleeding that is terrible. My concern is the stomach pain mainly.

Thank you for the advice I have a appointment to see the surg on the 3rd and I will ask if this is really necessary.
