Black specks in stool

Howdy,

I'm a 36yr old male, non smoker. Although I understand that only a doctor's visit could diagnose this, the soonest I can get in to a colon/rectal clinic is May 3. I'm just wondering if anybody else knows what the heck this is...

A little background here, since about mid-January, I noticed a small lump on the exterior of my rectum. It's not on the rectum per se, but in the vicinity. I first really noticing it after taking a BM and had bright red blood on the TP. It didn't come from the rectum, it was coming from the lump. It has been very uncomfortable to sit, and to walk thanks to this thing. At it's zenith it got to the size of a small grape. Along with this, burning pain in the rectum itself. I thought maybe this was 'roids, since I sit all day at work, and asked my wife to pick me up some medicated wipes (since I was too much of a coward to buy them myself!), which seemed to help the burning a bit, but didn't do anything for the lump.

Felt like something was moving around in there too. Got tired of it, so I made a doctor appointment and saw my GP for a physical about 3-4 weeks ago. I told him about the rectal pain and the lump. After a quick exam, he figured the lump was either an infection, or a cyst, and said I should see the colon/rectal clinic. He also prescribed me on Cephalyxin (sp?), and sent me on my way.

I didn't immediately call the colon/rectal clinic, because I seemed to feel a bit better, and figured the medicine he gave me might help. The lump persisted, and a week ago, popped again. Since then, it has gone down considerably, almost to the point of being unnoticible.

However, one thing I forgot to ask my GP about were these black specks in my stool and also small pieces of what appears to be reddish-orange pieces of skin (like from a vegetable or something). This has been more noticible lately. My stools are not solid these days, and usually when I do make one, it isn't very much and is every other day. The specks are mainly noticible on the TP. Assuming this is blood, but I don't know. No watery diarrea, just soft stools. Rectum feels swollen, like I've been riding in a car for 10 hours.

I can only speculate what this is, but I try not to because I'll go nuts while I'm waiting for my colon/rectal appointment May 3. I told them to get me on the waiting list so I can hopefully get in sooner.

Sorry for the "War and Peace" here. But there are other symptoms to go along with this "speck" issue, and I'd sure like to know what it is! Help!

Re: Black specks in stool

May 3rd is a long time to wait to have something like this looked at by a specialist. It's been my experience over the years, that there is a better way to get an appointment with someone like that, when you're not an established patient.

I have been through many medical situations and currently I am Social Security Disability, so I've had a fair amount of experience with this type of situation. You need to call your GP's office and ask them (the nurse can usually do this as per the doc's instructions) to call this clinic and get you an appointment there ASAP. If you go as a referral from your doctor, you will be able to get in much sooner. Although there's always the exception, but I have found this usually works to your favor.

Re: Black specks in stool

Thanks for the advice, I will call the GP's office when they open back up and see if they can help get me in sooner.

I just wish I knew what I was dealing with here.
