I've had IBS for years and I've suffered with chronic constipation since I came from the womb. I hadn't been having any constipation trouble for the past 4 or so years and then WHAM! I'm now constipated ALL THE TIME!
Had a colonoscopy in December to rule out anything serious and surgeon said my colon was "clean" and it was IBS. It wasn't constipation that sent me to him, I had to have Diverticulitis and Chron's ruled out because of adhesions on my bowel caused by Endmotriosis.
Since around October I've experience bouts of constipation and it's getting worse every go around. I've went from increasing water worked, then increasing fiber worked. I then got completely back up, sick to my stomach, in serious pain and swore I couldn't be constipated cause I WAS going at least once a day. X-ray proved I was back up into my chest (exactly how I used to get as a child!). Had to do the whole magnesium citrate routine to get a grip on things. But it was is if my motility didn't spring back into action after the cleansing. I got constipated again within 3 days.
Since then, I've been drinking 8 glasses of water before allowing myself any other fluid. I've also been taking 2-3 tbs. of mineral oil a night. The oil had given me the runs and some leakage (sorry) so I backed off for two night. I found in those two days I couldn't produce one BM even though the urge was there!
Now I CAN'T have a BM without mineral oil! I'm completely stumped! And with all the fluid intake I'm peeing every half hour during the day. Yet, nothing else comes from me unless I stick the mineral oil nightly and don't let up for a single day! BTW - it took me 3 nights to get back to producing normal BM's and not hard balls after the break from mineral oil.
Sorry for the long post, but is this normal? I'm only 27 yet my bowels work like I'm 97!
