intestinal exams

Anyone know the difference between the tests as far as what each can find and what each cant find. I want to find out what problems i may have in the intestines and dont want the radiation of a Cat but dont know if the other two can find everything the cat can.

Cat of abdomen and pelvis
small bowel series
video pill that you swallow

(Already had endoscopy and colonlyoscopy)

Thanks

Re: intestinal exams

Hi....

An endoscopy and colonoscopy take a "ride thru" the esophagus and sigmoid colon. A CT scan shows a clear picture of the lower bowel (outside) and surrounding organs.

I have never had a small bowel series, but am assuming it is done with contrast much like the CT, but specific to the small intestines.

As for swallowing a "video pill" - same concept as a colonoscopy....takes a look at the inside.

Good luck,
Linda
