I have had bad pain in my abdomen all of yesterday and so far today. It hurts and makes me feel a little nauseous. I thought it was just bad gas, but it turned out I had bad diarhea. It is completely fluid and comes out like I am urinating. I feel like I have no control over my bowels as it comes out when I release gas. I have never had diarhea this bad. I think I have IBS however it has never been officially diagnosed by a doctor.
Usually I know what foods give me diarhea, or upset my bowels. Even at that, if I eat something my bowels do not like... it is usually released and then I feel fine. The last two days I haven't eaten anything that would usually upset my bowels. I barely ate anything yesterday and I'm afraid to eat anything today just in case it makes it worse.
Does anyone know what this could be? Or if there are any OTC drugs that would help?
Hi...It could be that you ingested something such as a bad bacteria and now have a gastro infection.
You'd have to get it checked out by a doc if it gets worse.
Do you have any nausea with it?
Have you recently been on antibiotics?
Do you consume any artificial sweeteners? including gum, drinks, etc?
Could you possibly be lactose intolerant? Do you consume a lot of milk?
I would suggest you purchase a protiotic in capsule form, not in the form of yogurt in case you're lactose intolerant (just at this time since you're having diarrhea).
There are lots of different kinds of probiotics...it's difficult for me to suggest exactly which one would be good. I use Natural Factors Protec, but other good ones would be Culturelle, Primadophilus Reuteri and Flora Q based on others that I know that take them.
You could go to a health food store and have them suggest one that would be best for your situation.
As well, I would suggest a fibre supplement to bulk up the stool and help with some of the control. I would suggest one NOT with artificial sweeteners...Benefiber, Prodiem or Metcmucil are good ones. but, read the labels, because there are different kinds of each.
Now, you think you have IBS...since you're having urgency and things have changed, what foods do you have reactions to?
Ultimately, you should see a gastroenterologist to be checked out thoroughly.
I can relate to you because before I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, I had 3 years of symptoms as you do. Eventually, the bleeding started and my doctor finally decided to send me to a specialist.
Keep us posted as to what's happening.
It's all a matter of perspective!
My diverticulitis started out as just a stomach-ache type pain that felt different than any I'd had before. Thought I had the flu bug, but the pain was so odd I went to the ER just to have it checked. I didn't feel feverish, no diarrhea, just like crap ya know. They pressed on my belly down low and brought me off the table. That was my first clue it wasn't gonna be good news. If your symptoms continue I suggest getting to the dr. Let us know how you make out.
Well I thought that this had gone away after Sunday as I was fine yesterday, but then it came back today in a less severe form. The pain wasn't as bad but again I was having diarrhea that it felt like I had little control of. However I was feeling alright, my stomach sort of felt like I was having menstrual cramps and I should be starting my period any day now so I thought was normal. I also tend to have diarrhea during my period so I am hoping that has something to do with today's instance. As I am writing this I am completely flushed and I do feel feverish, but my temp was only about 98.9 so as far as I know that isn't too bad. I am not familiar with diverticulitis but I don't like the sound of it... so I hope that isn't the case.
The worst part of this is that I still have an appetite... but I feel like I can't eat anything without it coming right out!! So unless I know I will be at home for a while, I haven't been eating. I'm hungry!
I was really nauseous this weekend but I have been alright today,
I have not been on any antibiotics recently, the only prescripition I have been taking is my birth control pill,
No artificial sweeteners (those upset my stomach), I MAY be lactose intolerant so I rarely, rarely consume dairy products, they don't sit well with me at all.
As far as the IBS goes, mainly greasy foods, meats and dairy upset my stomach. However it seems like everytime I eat a meal, it ends up coming out shortly after. So I tend to eat very small, snack-like meals. Usually my stool is regular though and I only have diarrhea when I eat certain foods, or if I eat an unusually large amount of food.
I do not know if any of those conditions are age-related, but if it helps I am 19 years old.
If anyone knows anything given that information, please let me know!
Thank you all!
