I'm an embarrassed 23 y/o and have had hemorrhoids for a while. My parents had them and I have since I was about 15 (before they were usually about a pea and went away quickly).
Anyway, I had one flare up on my honeymoon last week or so to be the size of a grape. About 2 days into my lovely honeymoon in Hawaii, I had a BM in the morning. I ate some spicy food the night before
. Needless to say, that's when this started. I saw a doctor on the island and he gave me some "special" suppositories. I've also been using OTC creams, wipes, and taking warm baths.
It has been about a week and 4 days and while it has gotten much smaller, thinner, and less painful, it has begun to get "scabby" regions on it. The pain at this point is very minimal compared to when it first started, as I can sit and stand with only minimal discomfort. However, when I have a BM, there is usually some blood when I wipe during and horrible itching that occurs after (a hot bath takes away a lot of the itching). I have a very close and trusting wife who "checks me out" and has noticed that the blood is coming from these scabby regions after a BM (oh, don't worry, I'm cleaned when she checks!!)
My question is, are these small scabs normal? They usually bleed some after using the bathroom and then itch like hell. Otherwise, it no longer hurts like it did last week and swelling is way down. For the scabbing though, Is this normal progression for healing? I have one larger scab on the end of it and a very tiny one near the opening of the anus (which is where the blood was mostly coming from).
Do you honestly think I need surgery? I heard from one person that the scabs are a normal part of healing, but I want to hear from others.
