Prolapse of the rectum, also Hemorrhoids.Any one else.

Hello to any readers..I have got a prolapsed rectum and hemorrhoids.
I have read only one letter on this board, from some one with a prolapsed rectum, who was having surgery for their condition.
I have read no new posts from any one with this condition,OR from any one who has had surgery to fix it up.
I would like to hear from any one else with this problem.
Yours sincerely from bess01.

I have also got this problem I believe the prolapse is called a Rectocele. I had a Defacating Proctogram (an embarrasing x ray) recently to determine how bad it is, and it was decided to do nothing for the moment I have been discharged from the hospital and need to be refferred back if the condition becomes worse. Most of the time I can cope well with it if I make sure to drink loads of water and keep to a very high fibre diet. I do have times a couple of times a month when I do have problems going to the toilet for a few days and then the discomfort is really unpleasant, but I get over it and carry on. When the x ray was done I was going through a good patch so I managed to go easily and it did not give a true picture of the problem.

Re: Prolapse of the rectum, also Hemorrhoids.Any one else.

Hi i think there is a difference between a rectocele and a prolapse of the rectum, but i dont know for sure.I wll ask my doctor when i see him next time. All i know is when i have a bm, i have to wash out my rectum with my finger or i get a seepage of faeces later on.I have a bidet so this is really handy. While i am on the bidet i look down at my bottom with a mirror, and i can see a red coloured bulge coming out my anus. From pictures i have found on the internet about this problem, it looks like the same thing.I saw a specialist the other day, when he examined me, he asked me to strain down like i needed to pass my bowels, but unfortunately, every time i tried to do this, i wanted to wee myself,MOST EMBARRESING,any way he thought it might be a prolapse he could feel, or a pile, or a polyp. He said he wont know until he does a colonoscopy. My GP used a small tube he inserted, and said there was a pile and a prolapse. It would have been a better idea if this specialist had done that as well.I hope all goes ok for you,Best Wishes bess01.

Hi Bess,
I have read your quotes and you definitely have a prolapse. I was 29 and went to the doctors for my mom to have a colinoscopy and explained to my doctor what my problem was, so he said to me take an app't and i'll visit you, anyway luck was on my side, he examined me the same day because a patient was late...so as soon as i showed him he said it's a prolapse, in no time i did the tests and was operated 2 months later. there are different procedures, but i got my rectum pulled up and tied to my pelvis and the cuts were minor, which healed properly. now the only way to get your prolapse to come out is if your force when you want a bowel movement. now go see a specialist in colons and he will help you. i'll be glad to give you more information .angel

Hi Angel,
Thanks for your reply. You mention you had surgery, did your surgeon operate by cutting open your lower tummy area.I read on the internet, where they can do it via the rectum. But its not always permanent, the first way via an operation through the tummy region, was said to be the most permanent way of fixing up this problem.I dont know how they will do me,seeing i have piles as well.I asked the specialist i saw the other day and how they fix up a prolapsed bowel,he said, they stretch up the loose tissue in the rectum and staple it in place. Then they cut away all the loose tissue.I read where some one reported, that a hemorrhoid operation performed with the staple is not successful.I get pain every day after my bm.I take panadol that helps.I am going to look in to it all, and prefer to have it done right the first time.Best wishes bess01.

Hi Bess,
Yes your abosultely right, my doctor did offer me 2-ways of operating and he suggested that i was young and should do the long term operation which lasts longer. The operation is exactly what you said a little tummy incision(like a c-section) and i had 3 extra little little ones that totally disappeared. They were used for the camera where the doctor saw everything on the tv. Anyway, what he did in my words cause doctor terms are a little complicated. The lifted up my rectum and tied it to my pelvis. i think it was done with elastics. It's been 3 years and i go visit every year and checks out the operation through my rectum and it's fantastic. I'm very careful when i have a bm meaning i don't force it...cause that is the major cause of prolapse..So if you have to get operated please do the longterm operation and i was out of the hospital within a week....you can do it...let me know if you need further information ....good luck Angel

Re: Prolapse of the rectum, also Hemorrhoids.Any one else.

hi,i had a op for a rectocele and i had a general anaesthetic and was completely asleep. A small cut is made through the lining of the back - posterior of the vagina. The supports to the rectum are shortened with stitches and the bulging part of the vagina cut away. This repairs the weakness. The wound in the vagina is then stitched up. i was fine and have been ok since
