Hi Guys:
I have just been told I have Diverticulosis. Does anyone out there suffer with this disease. I have alot of burning in my left side. I have avoided seeds, nuts and have been on a high fibre diet but I still have the buring pain. I would like to talk to some who maybe suffering with the same disease.
Sorry to tell you, Puggle1---but it sounds like you probably have a problem that is going to need help surgically sometime in the future. Your need to be examined by a surgeon (if you haven't already had a colonoscopy) to see how bad the diverticulosis is. You certainly don't want to have a serious attack with a perforation that could result in a colostomy. I'm having surgery next week because I was convinced it would be better to have it while I was feeling OK than wait until I have an another attack---possibly far away from home and with doctors & hospitals I'm not familiar with. Please don't put off checking into this situation----it could be critical to your future health.
THanks for your reply. I had extras already but I haven't been examined by a specialist. Is there medication they can give you. Tomorrow I am see my family doctor as I have no intentions of living with this burning pain all the time. What were your symptons. Puggle1
It is a good idea to get checked out and have test done to determine if you should have surgery. I had a bad episode a few years ago with a perforation and hospialization for 6 days. After that, I had a colonoscopy and the surgeon decided mine wasn't that bad. So of course a couple of years later (and several flare ups later) I was back in the hospital for a total of 11 days with a perforation and infected abscess that had to be drained and a suction drain installed as an emergency last ditch effort to avoid emergency surgery. Well lucky for me it worked and I am scheduled to have surgery on Nov. 5th. If the first surgeon had allowed me to have surgery I wouldn't have had to go thru it again (much worse the second time). I am looking forward to having this done and over with! So if surgery is necessary I would recommend you go ahead to avoid emergency surgery and painful flare ups and possible abscesses, fistulas and perforations.
Others have heard my story here so I will be brief. My colon ruptured because I was stupid and didn't go to the hospital and laid on my bedroom floor and almost bled to death by the time I could get to the phone rushed to the ER
my heart had stopped because of no blood. 13 days in ICU and 12 units of blood. Removed most of my colon and I feel much better. But it was a close brush to death. Please get the help you need. Good luck, Dyana

Hellow Newbie:
I have lower burning on my left side. Yesterday I went to the doctors and asked him for some medication for when I get this burning. He didn't feel it was from the diverticulosis. I havent had any incidents of winding up in the hospital like some of the stories I have read on this website but Im afraid it may happen sometime and thats what scares me. Im just learning what trigger these attacts. So far seeds, nuts and raw vegetables seem to cause an attact. You sound like you have the same as me. Let me know how you do at the doctors. Lorraine
