Question Could it be IBS?

So, I was having irregular bowel movements over the course of 2 weeks. I was feeling constipated, and my back hurt. It took forever and a day to squeeze the stools out of me, they varied from pencil shaped to a little over an inch in diameter. They weren't "normal" for me, I hadn't had any trouble with having BMs before. So this really bugged me. I'd down a lot of prune juice, so I'd have diareah. I still felt I had to push something out.

So I went to the doctor. At that time my back pain wasn't as bad, but my stools were still irregular. It would then vary from a bit of diareah to being constipated. I tried everything to illeviate this, I drank a lot of water, I took a lot of Vitamin C and magnesium. I changed my diet, and started to do more exercise after I ate to "move things along" All it did was give me serious exploiding diareah, then the next day I'd feel constipated again. My doctor said basically if something was coming out the other end, and it was happening at least once a day - 2 at the most... then I probably had nothing to worry about. She told me to take Metamucil 3 times a day for a month. She said that my back pain probably had nothing to do with my constipation, considering I don't have any stomach pains at all.

I've been doing this about 2 weeks now, Metamucil, eating decently. It was working OK (I'd have a BM 3 times a day after every meal, they still weren't "normal" but they were harder than diareah and not as solid as passing a constipation rock. They looked like a bunch of the inch-diameter stools smooshed together in a big piece. Yeah, gross ) until one night I gulped down a glass of Metamucil, got these SERIOUS cramps...and I was on the toilet for about 20 minutes BM'ing out about 10 pounds of God knows what I had eaten. It wasn't all liquid, it was very loose though and mushy. This worried me. The next day, I felt constipated. Sitting on the toilet feeling like I had to pass a watermelon. The next day, I took my metamucil, got the cramps, and had the mushy toilet-full BM again before I went to work. NOW, I feel constipated again. I had 2 BMs earlier, one was a very pencil like stool with a plop of a stool, and the second one looked relatively normal in texture and color, cept it wasn't very large, maybe only about 3 inches long or so. But I don't have any stomach pains (Besides the random metamucil cramps those 2 times)! No bloody stool, no tarry stool. My back pain is back, and I don't what to do. Could I be sitting awkwardly and it causes my colon to take a vacation? I also have really bad gas now. The Metamucil only gave me those cramps on the 2 occasions.

I don't know if it was something I had eaten. I went off my one-a-day vitamin to see if that would stop me from having those mushy pieces-into-one-big stool. I cut out milk and bread, but then I ate some potatoes for dinner which I hadn't had in a while.

I've been eating lots of fruits and veggies, drinking lots of water. And now this craziness.

And me being the biggest loser of the day, I go and look up my symptoms online and I'm either dying of cancer or have IBS. My doctor even said it might be a touch of IBS. I don't want to go to a colon specialist and waste all that time and money if he's just going to tell me the same thing. Or give me some harsh medication.

I just want someone to find out for sure what is wrong with me, so I can stop stressing!!!!

Hellllp!
