I suffer from chronic constipation and am about to undergo a Sitz Marker test to check for slow motility or possible pelvic floor dysfunction. Right now my Gastro MD has me on Miralax 2x/day, Ducosate Sodium 2x/day, Fiber 2Tblspn/day, and a tapwater enema every third day that I fail to have a bowel movement (which is quite common for me).
Here is my question...My doctor has told me to maintain the existing regimen of laxatives and enemas during the 5 day period of the transit study. This does NOT make sense to me (especially the enemas). I would think that an enema would render the results of the test useless. I'm scheduled to start the test in 2 days and would appreciate any thoughts you might have.
Am I crazy or is my doctor?
